Lost about 60% off my D/L Speed.

      Hi guys,

I noticed some lag on my ps3 last week and surfing just seemed a tad slow but I just put it down to my exchange been busy. I checked the stats on the router last night and again today and my speed has dropped significantly.
I was always between 3200kbs and 3900kbs and have never had any problems. Its was sat at 11000(ish) kbs last night and is now at 1376kbs.Is there anything wrong by looking at the stats below.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1376 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 60.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 12.6 db 14.0 db

Ive had a quick look around the forum and it seems as though there are quite a few posts from people complaining of reduced speeds. 3-4mb was o.k but 1mb is killing me, last time it was this slow was about 8 years ago with BT.

      Any advice is greatly appreciated
      Thanks
      Lee

It looks like you may have had a blip on your line.

Re-boot the router ans see if it goes back up, if not then you have been capped and will need to speak to Sky to remove the cap.

You should see your noise margin on the download side reduce to around 7mb when you have got you top speed.

Thanks Smithy. I have rebooted the router a few times and it always connects back at around 1200-1300kbs. Why would sky cap me, I would have thought they would send a letter or email before capping someone surely?
Why cant people just leave things alone, is there an email address I can use to contact them or must it be via phone. My GF is the account holder and she is away therefore they wont speak to me no doubt, even thought the DD is from my account.

Re: Lost about 60% off my D/L Speed.

It won't be something Sky have done as such, DLM is running on all lines and if it sees the line become unstable it will reduce the speed to try to fix it.

Has the router been turned off/on recently for decorating or similar, this can cause the line to look like it has a problem even though it doesn't.

Ringing is the best chance of getting it sorted quickly, you could fill in a KANA form but there is a chance they will not get it sorted out quickly or properly, on the phone at least you can argue your case.

Do you have a test socket? (see sig for details), it would be worth getting the stats from there also, just so we can rule out a problem at your end.

Re: Lost about 60% off my D/L Speed.

I unplug the router every night smithy, the Mrs doesnt like it leaving on as it gets quite hot.

      *** Update ***
I just had a look through this forum and found a link to a netgear router utility that lets you reset the noise margin . I left the figure at 100%, clicked the adjust margin & resync and.........

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3584 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 60.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 8.1 db 13.0 db

Miles better, damn you guys on here are clever.
Thanks again, might be worth a look for the others having a slow down
