      Questions about Sky

Hi I recently moved home and stupily changed my broadband to BT.I am now going back to Sky even though I have to pay BT to get out of my contract. I have spoken to a couple of people from BT. 1 of them say I will only get 2mb from sky with a bt phoneline. The other person said I would get only 6mb something to do wholesale. I dont belive this because when a was with sky at my old address I was getting 16mb. Sky have already told me I can get between 8-16 mb. I have also checked o2 and they say my line can support 17mb. are bt trying to pull a fast 1 over me.

      Thank you

      Kevin

What speed are you getting with BT? You should get at least that if not more with Sky.

Perhaps if you post up some router stats we can see what you have now?

      Re: Questions about Sky

I think your profile is still showing your old details, ie Exchange, package etc. Is your present exchange enabled by Sky? Be careful if it is not, as your only option will be Connect and that is not recommended by many.

      Re: Questions about Sky

Hi Koala5 my line can get 8MB with BT but it nether stays at 8MB cause the cap me under 1MB. As I checked with sky they say my line can take 8-16MB and also check with other sites that state my line can get sky max between 8-16MB. and o2 have said my line can take 17MB.

I am not sure how I post stats as I am currently using the BT Home Hub

Hi Isitme yeah I have checked with SKY and they inform me it is available.

Thank you for all your help

      Re: Questions about Sky

BT is frankly useless, when I was getting 8 meg/sec with them they said the line could only take 5 meg/sec.

Then when I wanted to move they said that Sky would be a lower speed than that on BT, they were either deliberately lieing to keep me as a customer or they have no idea on how the internet works.

I am sure that BT is convinced that the customers get in the way of the smooth operation of their company.

      Re: Questions about Sky

Hi sorry I have not posted for a while here a the stats for my BT broadband

      Connection information
      Line state Connected
      Connection time 0 days, 15:53:38
      Downstream 6,368 Kbps
      Upstream 448 Kbps

      ADSL settings
      VPI/VCI 0/38
      Type PPPoA
      Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
      Latency type Interleaved
      Noise margin (Down/Up) 7.3 dB / 24.0 dB
      Line attenuation (Down/Up) 29.0 dB / 17.0 dB
      Output power (Down/Up) 19.8 dBm / 11.9 dBm

I no longer have to pay BT to get out of my contract after making a complaint to Ofcom and speaking to someone High up in BT who listend to the call and agreed the sales advisor got it wrong.

I have a few questons to ask

I am due to switch over to sky broadband on Monday 15th hopefully this should go ok. As anyone else switched from BT to Sky did you get any problems with it.

Also I checked the distance from my home to the exchange and it roughly 860m is that ok should I be able to get a good speed with that depending all my cableing is ok or am I to far away from the exchange.

I spoke to a lady at sky she said It will happen at 12am but she is not sure if thats 12am going into the 15th or 12am going into the 16th

      Thank you

      Kevin

      Re: Questions about Sky

Looking at your attenuation you are likely to get 12-14Mb. You may have to do some work on your internal wiring as ADSL2+ is a lot more 'picky' than BT's ADSLMax. If there are any noise problems at all, they will effect your connection.

I don't think the 12 am time you have been given is correct, the change over can come at any time prior to or after your given activation date. Just keep your BT router plugged in and when your connection drops, plug in the Sky router, you should be on line in less than an hour. It just depends on how long it takes the BT engineer to move your connection from BT's equipment to Skys.
