      Can't access three popular sites

I've been using Sky broadband for over a month now and I still can't access the following sites. Is anyone else having this particular problem?

      Microsoft Corporation
avast! - Download antivirus software for spyware and virus protection
AVG Antivirus and Security Software - Real-time protection against viruses, spyware and malicious websites

I mean I wouldn't mind so much but they're the kinda sites you visit right after a reformat and I can't install any programs that require access to them.

Thanks. At least that gives me some basic protection. Though I couldn't update because it can't access AVG's site. This is partly why I didn't bother with an independant download site earlier because I tried to install Avast this way and it wouldn't even finish without being able to connect for updates.

When you can't connect to MS or security related sites, a trojan is the first suspect. See if you can connect to Malwarebytes.org if you can't try it from here - Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com, download and run the free version. If you cannot connect to either, get a friend to download it to a USB stick for you.

Thanks. It didn't give me my sites back but it found a few problems at least.

And I'm using XP Professional with service pack 2.

Re: Can't access three popular sites

      Try these -
TrojanHunter anti trojan scanner - Remove trojans, spyware, adware and more This is a dedicated trojan hunter, the trial is limited to 30 days but is fully functional.

Also this one SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com This is the free version which does everything except realtime protection.

You might also want to try an on-line scanner like Free online antivirus. Download ActiveScan 2.0 and clean your PC. Panda Security This will not remove anything but will advise you if anything is present. Be careful with on-line scanners as many are just a scam to get you to but their product. This is a safe one. Norton also do free security checks - Free Virus Scan - Free Antivirus Software | Norton Security Scan

Re: Can't access three popular sites

Thanks for the help. It now appears that I have a virus blocking me from certain sites so I can't even update the few spyware programs I've managed to install and run. It must've got on my system pretty quick aswell because it suddenly appeared after reformatting Windows. I'm just gonna try as many as I can to get rid of the problem.

I also installed Service Pack 3 for good measure.
