Question Sky BB Max! Is it worth me upgrading?

I was wondering if someone would be able advise me please on wether it's worth me upgrading my broadband to the Max package.

      My stats are:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1856 kbps 384 kbps
Line Attenuation 61.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 14.0 db

(You'll see from my signature what I'm currently acheiving in reality! This was on a good day. I usually get nearer 1.5 mbps!)

I use the white Netgear DG834GT wireless router supplied by Sky.
I'm connected to my router via Netgear Powerline adapters.
The ADSL2+ speed checkers suggest I might get 3-4 mbps. Does anyone out there think that this is a likely possibility?

Thanks in advance for any help.

wouldn't bother - not unless you get a better noise margin in your test socket...

These speeds are theoretical, ADSL2+ is supposed to give you better speed over a long line, but in practise this is seldom the case. With your high attenuation you would possibly be better on G.DMT, only by getting Sky to try changing you, would you find out for certain. Many lines with your attenuation achieve more than 3 Mbs.

      Thanks for the info.

I don't know much about braodband, technically. I thought that if you upgraded to Sky Max, you would be upgrading to ADSL2+. I not sure what G.DMT is, or even if I'm on it! When I get the chance I'll do a run my stats through my test socket.

Re: Sky BB Max! Is it worth me upgrading?

Thanks Isitme that linked worked. Results below:

Channel: INTR, Upstream rate = 384 Kbps, Downstream rate = 2208 Kbps
      Link Power State: L0
      Mode: G.DMT
      Channel: Interleave
      Trellis: ON
      Line Status: No Defect
      Training Status: Showtime
      Down Up
      SNR (dB): 7.1 14.0
      Attn(dB): 61.0 31.5
      Pwr(dBm): 17.8 6.9
      Max(Kbps): 2496 832
      Rate (Kbps): 2208 384

I'm begining to wonder if Sky/BT have been fiddling with my connecttion. My downstream rate has crept up again! Woo hoo!

You are on G.DMT, have you tried the Test socket? Looking at your stats you are getting as much as your line can handle. Can you post the rest of the stats showing the error rate?
