      Wireless not working.

      Hi.

I have a wireless router from sky. It works fine with connection using a wire but it doesn't seem to work for wireless.

My laptop gets a signal from the router but I just get a message saying web page cannot be displayed. I ran some sort of test which my computer prompted me to and all that said was contact supplier. Is this my only option or can someone on here help me?

the bit on my laptop that says about my wireless connection says I have a fair connection and local access only??

      Please help.

Try enabling your wireless on the router. Local access is your LAN local area connection. you needs WAN to connect to connect to the web, Just make sure your wireless access is ticked in router settings.

he'll already have wireless enabled on the router otherwise he wouldn't connect to the router at all!! as already said, though, you currently only have connection to the router but Vista shows access 'Local and Internet' with a little globe when you're online...chances are it's something on the PC stopping access...

try booting in safe mode with networking and see what happens...

I'll just draw you attention to this line from OP first post
"I have a wireless router from sky. It works fine with connection using a wire but it doesn't seem to work for wireless.

      Just being pedantic

      Re: Wireless not working.

i assumed he could get online using ethernet (hence posting) yet the wireless gave the 'local only' - leading me to say he has a connection to the router just not the Internet

      Re: Wireless not working.

      Thanks for the replies.

The connection has worked fine since we had it. We have been able to use it no problem at all. We sent the laptop to get repaired, and since then, we haven't been able to get online using the wireless connection. So maybe the people at Acer have done something?

The connection is enabled the icon on my desktop says it is. It just wont allow me to get online. I'm going to try what IAmNotTheEnemy said and start in safe mode with networking. I will get back to let you know if it works.

      Thanks for your help.

      Neil.

      Re: Wireless not working.

Got it sorted now. Called sky and after an half hour phone call its all good now. Can't really remember what the problem was. All I know is I had to go onto the router setting and enable wifi connection (not sure how it turned off) then reset the whole thing and tada! it works.

Bit annoyed that I got cut off just as he was explaining what else I had to do. Luckily I figured out the rest.

      Thanks everyone

      Re: Wireless not working.

      Fair enough!!

Just makes the first post redundant...

"My laptop gets a signal from the router..."

      and

"the bit on my laptop that says about my wireless connection says I have a fair connection and local access only..."

surely if you're connected to the router wirelessly it's turned on?!?!

      Anyway - it's fixed now

      Lol IAmNotTheEnemy

This is not about brinkmanship my friend. I was merely making a valid point that the fact remains the OP's wireless was turned OFF as I had suggested.

      Mines a pint, what's yours?
