      Re: Speed Dropping Overnight

we are connected to the main socket on the test socket no extension cables only those supplied via sky,

the engineer has been and discovered that extensions upstairs(not in use) where split from the main wire coming in he disconnected the extensions.

he said that he got 8mg when testing from exchange with no errors and he got the same at our house but with rs errors he determined that the fact the extension sockets upstairs being split from the main wire was probable cause,he tested again and it was 8mg, he said that should be okay and see how it goes,

now the interesting bit before he left i checked my router stats see below:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10481 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.5 db 21.6 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 15.5 db

as you can its 10mg not 8mg

this perplexed the engineer and he couldnt explain it, i will monitor connection for the next few days and see how it goes, any advice woud be welcome please.

Ok can you post a current set of stats and a set from the normal socket if you are in the test socket at the moment. If possible run these tests with nothing else attached to the line apart from the filter and router.

Only a minor drop, should have no issues on that connection at all? If you continue seeing a massive drop in the stats then there must be something causing the fault. Has anything been removed from the line for these stats apart from the phone?

      Re: Speed Dropping Overnight

no just the phone, as i said when the engineer came this morning he disconnected the extensions upstairs that were split from the main line coming in, i'm hoping that has solved the problem i wont really know if the problem is still present until this evening, that is when the noise margin drops to around 1.1 and disconnection occurs and then after reboot the noise margin comes back up between 5.5-20.5 but the speed drops to below a mg, even after reboot the speed doesnt comeback, i will monitor to see if problem is solved.

      Re: Speed Dropping Overnight

It's more likely the extensions were causing it, if it happens again tonight get the stats and call Sky immediately with the router in test socket (make sure the stats don't change when in the test socket).

It may be advisable to start your own thread if this happens again.
