      Slow Internet connection

Hey, my parents signed up for sky broadban max a couple months ago (came online on 27th april). I just came back home from university this weekend and found that their internet connection was terrible, apparantly its been like this since they got it. I improved the connection a bit by adding a microfilter to a phone socket that didn't have one but its still nowhere near as fast as it should be.
We have a family computer attached to the skyrouter by cable but 3 other computers connected by wireless.
Anyone know why our connection is so slow? Any help would be appreciated.
      Thanks.

(P.s. my understanding of connections etc. is limited so if you could keep things simple I would appreciate it).

Need stats from router showing speeds up and down, attenuation and noise margin.

      Re: Slow Internet connection

It would help greatly if you posted your router line stats. As you have the Sagem simply login to your router 192.169.0.1 Admin then Sky if it has not been changed.
This will open up your router to the Broadband set up page. Navigate down to the RED text at the bottom of that page and click on the Show Statistics
This will open a small window with your line stats. Copy and paste them in your reply.

      Re: Slow Internet connection

To be honest your not doing too bad for your attenuation, speed is all dependant on distance to the exchange, the further away you are the slower it is.

With four PC's connected you will eat up the bandwidth very quickly especially if one is running any sort of download programme, torrent etc.

You will need to turn off all the PC's except the wired one and test it's speed again, anything near your sync speed of 4.5mb and there is nothing wrong.

      Re: Slow Internet connection

Might want to check if you have a test socket available for checking as those stats are not that good. You do have everything plugged into filters don't you? Often we find that sky tv leads are plugged into the socket adaptor and then the filter into that.

      Re: Slow Internet connection

The speed test was done when only the wire connected computer was on, all the others were off.
As for the telephone exchange it is apparantly about 2 miles away.

I will try the socket test later on today when my dad comes back as I don't know where he keeps his screwdivers.
I Will post the results later this evening or tomorrow morning.
      Thanks.
