      Thumbs down Really slow connection

It must be at least 2-3 months since getting sky BB. I was with BT before and seemed to get a steady speed of 4-6mb which was great... OK it wasn't the 8mb I asked for but was good enough. Now it doesn't go any higher than 3.5 download. most the time it really feels a lot worse than that, more likely a 1mb speed! Example, a 1 minute youtube video was take far too long, it must have taken 3 minutes!

      I recorded these results :-

      and from the router:-

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4091 kbps 252 kbps
Line Attenuation 44 db 26 db

Now, I don't know much about all the speed jargon in the statistics section such as:-

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 13933 17605 0 1194 10218 00:33:12
      LAN 100M/Full 559 0 0 22 0 01:07:24
      WLAN 11M/54M 7029 5861 0 9420 1367 00:13:53

So I'm relying on you guys. All I know is that i'm connected into the master socket, using the filter, I'm sitting next to the router, ive rebooted and tested but getting same speeds. I've changed the channel on the router to 3 just in case of interference not sure what else I can do or check.

I'm sorry as I'm a right n00b when it comes down to this. Steve mentioned i was on a LLU, never heard of this before but looked it up so all clear now.

In case your wondering, I've signed up for the sky max connection but I know I won't get anything around 8-16mb.

Does anyone have a site I can check what people should be getting in their areas as I will be moving sometime next month, and hate to think that it could be lower than what I am getting.

At the end of this post, I'm basically asking for some tip and if there is anything in these results that's obvious for some.

Thanks for your help in advanced guys

Okay, you should get around 4-6Mb for a stable connection.

You say you are connected to the master socket, have you tried removing the faceplate on the master socket and connecting the filter to the TEST socker underneath?

Firstly how are you connected to the telephone line, how many sockets are there and how many are in use? Are filters connected to each physical wall socket and do you get any noise in the background at all on the phone?
Also you need to post your full stats, noise margin is important.

      Re: Really slow connection

      Hi Guys,

      Thanks for your quick replies.

OK, we have 4 phone sockets in the house, 3 of them are Virgin (original sockets in the house) and I had to get a BT line and socket installed on my room in order to get broadband. So raelly it is only one socket. Which I have a filter and router conncted to.

I don't have anything else connected to it, such as the HD box or telephone.

I actually did try using the test port. I never knew about that little secret until I read it on one of the posts on this site. But there was very little difference, I thik the noise rate was 1+ higher. Originally it was 13 and once connected to the test went up to 14.

How would I go about getting full stats? Apologies for my lack of knowledge regarding these type of things
