Double check your filter is correctly fitted and try changing it, this is a common cause of poor upstream attenuation, which appears to be your main problem. It appears you are capped both up and down stream.

Plug into the Test socket and post the stats, a faulty faceplate is unlikely but possible. Also try the stats with and without a phone plugged in, see if there is a difference.

      Re: Really slow connection

oh no, it's back to that high number db again

not sure if im going to go through the hassle of calling them to get this sorted as I was on the phone to them for an hour on hold and being passed around only to tell them i'm moving soon! Couldn't even do that because there was something with my calling plan that wasn't even activated so have to wait a few days :/

      No, not many are.

Try the SkyUser speed test it should give more consistant results.

      Re: Really slow connection

It could be a line fault, but it could be you have duff filters. The second reading in your post #12 is what you want to see consistently. This would give you between 6-7Mbs, with the caps lifted. Is there any chance of getting another filter to try, preferably not one supplied by Sky.

One other thing you could try is making a phone call and checking what happens to the noise margin, up in particular, while you are making the call.

      Re: Really slow connection

      Hi Isitme,

I think I may have a couple laying around (from BT) that I can try. The new filter I tried was brand new in pakaging from sky but they could be a faulty batch I guess. So i'll give that a go later and also try making a call and see what happens.

      Thanks for the advice

      Re: Really slow connection

Tried the other filter (BT) and it went up to 16DB

changed back and got the following

      Router Statistics

      System Up Time: 20:07:11
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 126 104 0 653 909 00:00:46
      LAN 100M/Full 3339 0 0 5 0 20:07:06
      WLAN 11M/54M 665291 436772 0 13377 463 20:06:54
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4091 kbps 252 kbps
Line Attenuation 44 db 26 db
Noise Margin 13 db 29 db

Then used the great Skyuser speedtester (never noticed it on the right)

      Test taken

      down up
      3352 Kbps 197 Kbps

after some minutes then noise goes back up again

Noise Margin 14 db 2147483647 db

      Re: Really slow connection

Why did you change back? Can you put the BT filter back in and post your stats? You want to see the noise margin rising in the upstream reading especially. The very large figure you are seeing means that the figure is negative, which the router cannot report. Ideally you want to see around double the downstream margin.
