      Problems with my conection speed

      Hi all

I have been on sky max for approx 2 months and iam having problems with my noise margin
I think i should be getting far greater speeds but being a noob at this iam not sure

My set up is as follows

I have 1 phone socket in my flat which i presume is the master
i have fitted a bt faceplate and have a short RJ11 to router then a 15 meter RJ45 to my pc
I have gone into my router stats and these are the results

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4091 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 49 db 29 db
Noise Margin 14 db 15 db

I have set my poll interval to 1second and the noise margin on the downstream is fluctuating from 10 db to 15 db
but the upstream seems fairly stable at 14 to 15 db

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
      please remember iam a noob

Re: Problems with my conection speed

      the line is...

      1. capped;
      2. on adsl2+

the latter might not be good for your line, and the former would mean uncapped you'd get about 6-7Mbps on gdmt (adsl)...if you want the speed increases then calling Sky is the only way forward...

just call and say your line is capped and need it removed - you shouldn't have to wait too long at this time of night...

the CST agent should sort you out pretty quick, unless they can't see there's anything wrong and don't do anything!!

Re: Problems with my conection speed

      Right i have rang sky
the first person i spoke 2 said i should be getting 5.544mb
then they put me through to tech guys
he said the same he played around with my line for about 15mins and this is the best he could come up with
      router stats as follows

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5088 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 49 db 28 db
Noise Margin 7 db 24 db

the noise margin on the down is still fluctuating between 5-8 db
iam still not happy with it
any more advice will be welcome

Re: Problems with my conection speed

You are now syncing at the maximum, so any improvement will involve your internal wiring. Plug into the Test socket, link below, and post your stats from there.

Edit - As IANTE says, a move to G.DMT would probably be to your benefit.
