      Ridiculously slow internet.

Hey guys, my internet is REALLY slow. It's getting to the point where it's unbearable to download and browse the internet.

      This is my speedtest result:

      Router Stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 511 kbps 412 kbps
Line Attenuation 62.5 db 37.5 db
Noise Margin 8.1 db 14.0 db

      Any help please?

P.S. I'm 2.6 miles away from the telephone exchange.

Can you post your stats from the Test socket, link below?

      Re: Ridiculously slow internet.

I will have to do the test in an hour or so because I'm currently quite busy and I'm back and forth to the PC checking my thread back. What I did see in that article was this though:

"Do Not use long extension leads as these can themselves be the source of the problem."

The phone socket is in the front room and there is a 15 meter cable going from the frontroom to the PC room, maybe this could be the problem? The cable only needs to be approx. 5/6 m to reach the PC room.

      Thanks.

If it is a cheap twin flat B&Q type extension then it probably is contributing to your problems. These are OK for a telephone but death to an ADSL signal.

Ben3210, when did you have Sky Mid activated? If it was within the last 10 days or so you may well be still in the training period so your speed shouldn't be indicitive of what you'll finally end up with, I hope.

It's a proper cable from a PC shop. I've still not had time to do the test socket either

I've had the sky internet for roughly 2 months, I was hoping it would gain speed but nothing, stays the same.

      - Thanks.

Ben leave the router plugged in down stairs in the master socket or the test socket with the filter going in first, if there are extensions in use remove everything so it is just the one socket in the home that is in use. If you need to use an extension of any kind
      • Use a longer Ethernet cable (Ebay for 6)

      • Go Wireless (10+)

      • Use homeplugs (30+)

Extensions CAN work for Broadband although through time the signal will begin to break down and you will have one of three things. Intermittent Connection, Slow Connection, No Connection.

It is in your best intrest to correct the physical setup. If you phone Sky Tech Support you will be asked to do this.

Sorry it's been such a long time.

I've just tested my test socket and the problem persists, not sure what to do from now?

      Thanks.

      Re: Ridiculously slow internet.

does the extension lead to the computer plug into the master socket, or is it wired to the faceplate (the bit you removed to get to the test socket) ? apart from this extension, are there any other telephone extension sockets in your home?

      Re: Ridiculously slow internet.

The extension lead plugs into the socket, yes. There is also a telephone socket in the PC room which the PC is in now. The main socket is in the front room.
