This is the one time that a BT I-Plate may be helpful. As it is not really possible to disconnect the ring line within an extension lead that plugs into the master, the I-Plate will filter it and may improve your BB.

However, for a long line like yours you cannot do better than to move the router to the master socket as IANTE has already said, and use a filter faceplate so any interferance from the wired phone extension in the comp room is removed.
While you were using the test socket, did you check to see if the extension telephone socket was dead,
      ? it should have been.

      No, I didn't.

I tried another web browser to use on speedtest and my download went to 0.50 but upload stayed the same. The odd thing is that none of my downloads can ever go over 54kb/s, every download is the same speed.

Does your downloads not exceed a certain kB/s also? Just wondering whether it was just me with the DL limit or others too.

I've just tested my test socket and the problem persists, not sure what to do from now?
Can you post your stats from the Test socket, link below, as your speed is unlikely to change but other figures may? If possible plug the router in directly with the supplied cable, don't use the long extension.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'stats', could you explain please?

Plug your router into the the test socket (This is the socket behind your main telephone sockets face plate)
Then in your browsers address bar type 192.168.0.1 and login to your router > then click 'show statistics.' Copy and paste them into your next post.

      Re: Ridiculously slow internet.

You have a very long line so you are never going to get real high speed. Are these taken from the Test socket, link below?

It appears you are on ADSL2+ which does not always work well on very long lines. If your stats were taken from the Test socket phone Sky and ask them to re-configure your line. If you can get past Tier 1 to CST they should be able to switch you to G.DMT which may give you a bit more speed.

      Re: Ridiculously slow internet.

In the past I've had 2.5MB with a different ISP, as soon as it changed the speed dropped dramaticaly even though we were paying for upto 8mb which was the same service as the previous ISP.

Also, I got a letter from SKY saying on the 1st of August the line will be sped up, if the speed doesn't change I'll give them a call.

      Thanks.
