      money.service.msn.com

      Hi

A few days after transferring from Virgin to sky, I am now continually (about every minute) getting a window popping up saying

The server money.service.msn.com at DSL Router requires a username and password.

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection).

The cursor auto transfers to the username entry feild.... it is driving me nuts...any idea what this is...and how I get rid of it?

      Any help appreciated.

      Peter

The Sagem router sometimes comes up with a similar error, if it is losing sync with the exchange.

Yep it's the router asking for information it's not receiving from the servers. Check if you are getting an amber light on the router when this happens or if the 4th light along (@ symbol on the black router) is going out. If you let us know your physical set up onto the telephone line we may be able to point out what the issue is and a set of stats (download, upload and noise margin readings) will help.

      Re: money.service.msn.com

Thanks for advice. Not sure what you mean by physical set up......the router is just wired into the telephone line via one of those splitters....then we have 2 desktops hard wired into the router ports via ethernet cables...strangely this window requesting username password is only coming up on one of the desktopsAs for a set of stats...where do I access these.

By the way, this only seemed to start happening after I had to disconnect/reconnect from the telephone line a few days ago. Might it simply correct if I turn it all off and reboot?

Also just check that the plug is firmly pushed into the filter socket and that the filter is fully pushed into the phone socket. It could as simple as a poor connection.

      Re: money.service.msn.com

      Hi all
Thanks for your suggestions. Meantime I have stumbled upon a cure if not a fix. This message seems to come up through Windows sidebar gadgets trying to obtain a data feed. In my case I had a Currency Converter gadget in the sidebar and it seems to be this that prompts the pop up requesting a user name and password. I hardly use the gadgets anyway so I unistalled them...and hey presto no more pop up requests.
