      DG934G and download speeds

      Hi,

I'm using the Netgear DG934G that was supplied by Sky when I joined them last year. After about a month of using it I switched back to my old NetGear 108 Mbps RangeMax ADSL Modem as I didn't like the restrictions on the Sky router (not being able to change the DNS servers via the router). When I switched to my old router, I noticed an increase in download speeds by 500kb/s - 600kb/s (averaging 1.3-1.6mb/s downloads), That unfortunately recently broke and I have had to go back to the DG934G. I have now noticed that my downloads have drop dramatically to 270kb/s-490kb/s (peaked at 790kb/s for about 20 seconds). I have everything setup the same (channel 13 for wireless, MTU 1500 etc) but I cannot explain the slow down.

*Edit* I've added my router stats, just in case that will help

Any ideas on what would cause this?

      Cheers,

      Ross

      Re: DG934G and download speeds

Have you tried your download speed wired? With your stats you should get a download speed of 1.4-1.5 Mb/s. Wireless is always slower than wired, but you could try changing the Channel. Download Netstumbler, link below, if it is compatible with your router, it will show the networks in your nieghbourhood and the channels they are using. Set yours to a channel as far from those in use as possible.

Wireless suffers from interference from lots of different sources and just because it has worked for years, does not mean that it always will. New sources of interference are always popping up. You are far better using a wired system, or a Homeplug network.

      Re: DG934G and download speeds

      Hi,

Thanks for that, I will give it a try once I have switched network card (as it says my Asus 802.11g is unsupported). I'll also try hard wiring it also and the report back.

      Re: DG934G and download speeds

      I have a DG934G wired and get 1.5 - 1.6Mb/s reported d/load speed. I haven't tried wireless though.
