      LCP Time-out

This morning my router timed out and in the Security log it said 'Loss of synchronization: 1' and LCP time-out or something similar.

I then restarted my router. It connected with no problems. Just has gone really peculiar. I wouldn't normally have my router syncing at 15-16 Mbps.

These are the results, straight after the restart.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1643 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 32 db 18 db
Noise Margin 14 db 13 db

      Results now:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1643 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 32 db 18 db
Noise Margin 15 db 11 db

      Re: LCP Time-out

Okay. Now it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting with NO LCP time-outs.

It doesn't disconnect to an extent as it doesn't show in the log, it just keeps going to like this:

The noise margin ranges from 0db to 16db and keeps changing. Mainly at the moment stays above 7/8 db and in the 11-15 range.
It never normally drops below 7db during the day (recently) until the evening in the "peak hours"

      Any ideas would be appreciated.

      ------------------

This is now appearing in the security log:

      Thu, 2009-05-21 13:30:05 - LCP down.
      Thu, 2009-05-21 13:30:08 - Initialize LCP.

It looks like some work may be being carried out on or near your phone line. As you say, with your attenuation you would not expect your router to sync at full speed, but it is possible. You could phone Sky and ask them if work is being done on your exchange, but they might not even know. Give it a couple of days and if it does not settle down, call them to trouble shoot.

If the problem disappears in the Test socket(your pm) then it is possible the faceplate is faulty, in which case I don't think there would be any problem getting it exchanged.

Do you know what exchange you are on? There are a couple of issues at the moment.

Yes. It would seem it would be the ADSL faceplate.

I placed it back upon the socket and the orange light just keeps flashing on the router, continuously . The 'Modem Status' on the router goes back and forth from 'Negotiating' to 'Connecting' and fails to connect.

I'm back in the test socket now, with it working fine. (Stats below)

So how will I get it exchanged, and is this a normal thing to happen with ADSL Nation faceplates? :\

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15927 kbps 760 kbps
Line Attenuation 29 db 15 db
Noise Margin 7 db 17 db

I don't think so, they are normally very dependable. Send a PM to View Profile: adslnation and he will advise you what to do.
