Question 3 Meg on Mid & 2 Meg on Max?

      Hi,

have recently moved on to the Max package after being "upsold" it on a call to Sky. I don't know too much about the whats and whys of ADSL, but have noticed that my connection speed has moved down from 3 meg on the Mid service to 2 Meg on the Max service.

I've had the Mid package for around 1 year and always had a 3 meg connection.

I've never had any connection issues or line drops with my router and I'm a fairly heavy interner user. I'm also using an ADSL Nation filtered face plate.

Can someone suggest why my speed has dropped. I've read a fair few forum posts so have included my router stats. I dont think they are too good

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2042 kbps 792 kbps
Line Attenuation 59 db 34 db
Noise Margin 11 db 12 db

DKM may be running on your line as it has been transfered across.

It may take 10 days but you will see no better speeds than you had with Mid. You do however get unlimited downloads so get going!!!!

I'm hoping I'll get my old speed back. I dont want unlimited downloads for 1 meg less in speed.

complain to sky, then complain again!!!
after changing from 16meg on o2 in jan this year, to sky max, and being promised as close to 16meg as possible, i got a speed between 2 - 3meg.
ever since i have phoned sky time and time again, just to be told excuse after excuse, from my speed being capped, to bt being at fault, or my equipment being faulty etc..
after a phone call to ofcom, i decided to change back to o2.
i spoke to the cancellations dept at sky, who said they had a record of ofcom involvement, and got a bit shirty, but agreed to supply a mac code.
a few days latter i got a letter from sky saying the fault had been fixed!!!!
i am getting nearly 16meg now from sky, even they STILL say my line can only handle 6-7meg!!!!

so dont take any excuses from removed sky if you know you are right.

The thing that has annoyed me is that Sky never mentioned that my speed could decrease. I wouldn't have "upgraded" if I'd have known that. I'm still inside the 10 day period so am hoping it will move back up??

It will move back, as long as you understand that you will not get any more speed. I do not understand why Sky have put DLM on your line if it has been active for a year. It seems a complete waste of time. No doubt there may be a few who would benefit from ADSL2+ but with your high attenuation, you are unlikely to be one of them.

Just my luck. I'm guessing they really shouldn't have upsold me to be honest. I'm hoping that I won't have any issues moving back to the Mid package. I'm paying more for a zero increase it seems. Not VFM for me.

If you were sold this on getting a faster speed and have no need for the unlimited download, you should get back on to them and get moved back. There is no way possible for you to get any more speed, given you attenuation. If anyone told you, you would, they should get a kick up the backside, right out the door.

You just don't get it do you. You can say bad things about sky, but you cannot be abusive about their staff. You have had your final warning via PM. As stated abide by our T&Cs or be banned.
