We have detected that your ISP is Sky - Your current download speed is 1320Kbps, and your current upload speed is 372Kbps.
Spoke to Sky now IP Profile for your line is - 1750 Kbps was 1000 kbps and good old RAMBo has been kicking in or should i say Bt has been playing O & X with Someone at Sky. Have not been on line very often over the last three months. But looking at various connect threads I see that there are a few connect Customer who have had their connections dropped and RAMBo has cut in if you remember that IP Profile will with sky connect Customer reset after 72hrs of connection

Re: Steve's Sky Connect speedtest blog

Sky CANNOT manually set the IP Profile nor get BT to do it...speaking to Sky is pointless as RAMBo will only raise it after up to 72hrs of solid connection...

Hi how are you keeping. The thing is if it gets to say 71hrs and drops and then again 71hrs 30 mins and then drops and if it has happened over and over again the last time 71hrs 50mins in the last 3months you will be amazed what ISP`s can do. Obvious the first thing to go up is the Download noise Margin cutting download speed sometimes in half and then in the end the cap and RAMBo saying Line Fault so now stuck and have to convince ISP. If you are lucky and you have a tag on your line which is monitored by let say Customer Relations and they see it is a Human error. In reality Computers do not make mistakes it is the person operating the Computer that causes the problem. Novice or Expert, Customer or Internet Service Provider so if you are very lucky anything can be achieved

Re: Steve's Sky Connect speedtest blog

Customer Relations do NOT monitor anyone's line unless it's been raised to them from CST with a specific ticket. Once said ticket is closed it's done - no more monitoring.

Sky have no say on the BT network and as such they can only raise it to BT, who in turn say it'll change by itself in 72hrs. So if your SNR has gone up due to a line issues which has then lead to your IP profile going down it's not going to go back until the cause of the noise has been eliminated and the IP profile has had it's training in period of 72hrs. BT won't lower your SNR as it's gone up for a reason and Sky can't do anything other than correct an issue which then means (on reboot) that the SNR falls and the profile can adjust.

There is no manual say in any of this process - it's the same for ALL ISPs (I work along side 3 others now, so that's 4 that have no say on BTW IPStream connections) so anyone saying otherwise is lying...the system controls everything. The most anyone at BT can do is in affect push a 'recalculate' button if it's stuck...

      Hi Steve,
I can't really explain the difference you are seeing, it does seem a bit strange. Speed will change from time to time but not to this extent.
I don't understand your reference to 832kbps upstream in your PM. AFAIK the upload for Connect, without overheads is 448kbps, say an actual 385kbps. I don't think there is any way Sky can influence this.

Hi Tom thanks anyway. The annoying part is Bt say Telephone can only take 512kbps downstream but post code say 3MBs downstream this has happened many times over the last few years and then a letter from Bt saying I see you are having problems with your ISP move to Bt and you will have none. maybe a coincidence but only received letters after I was having Broadband issues. I have had numerous tests done on the phone Line by Sky and Bt and everyone say there is no issues with the line. Both blaming each other until know Sky have said it is partly there fault the Conect package. But Bt`s RAMBo which tends to run from 4pm till 1am and weekends when the Connect Package is being Throttled. say they are not to blame So when RAMBo see issues and drops the IP Profile so speed goes lower and lower as you can see in the posts.

There will be others ISPs selling a BT rebadged service, the same as Sky Connect. Have a look here-

Re: Steve's Sky Connect speedtest blog

i thought id just post a couple of pics from 2 speedtest results from the bt test.

the first one is on 24th of october when i was at end of my tether with connect, the second is on 11th jan at 10:30pm, sorry i will do a speed test later or tomorrow at peak time to show recent stats but i have been with idnet since 2nd november without any probs whatsoever.

these were the only ones i had saved but my point is the first was on sky(taken at 3pmish so not even peak time!) and second is on idnet which are faultless.

the speedtest says it all, idnet and plusnet would be two great options for anyone wanting to be rid of connect.idnet do not throttle or traffic manage or anything of any sort ever, you just get what your line is capable of simple as.know

connect is crap and sky know it,by the way their llu service is great when i had it at old address so im not bashing them just their bt product

edit:found another old one for 25th oct at 20:24 peak time
