      Hi Again

      Thanks for all the replies.

I have just performed a test using the sky user speed tester (from the wired PC) and the results are:

      Download 3944Kbps
      Upload 305Kbps

These are the best I have had in a while, however they seem quite low considering my location and line stats, do you lot agree with me? When I get home tonight I will try again.

it is, yes...do the BT speedtester one (the one that shows your IP Profile) as this is one that has it's results recorded by BT and Sky can see them...

Re: Really slow connection (day and night)

As I said earlier you should get 7Mb+, so you are way below your full potential. Bear in mind that when you are doing a speed test everything else should be disconnected, including Sky player if you have it.

What OS are you running? If you are not using Vista or Win7, download and use TCPOptimiser, link below. Set your speed to 8000kbps and choose to auto optimise. This can make a big difference.

There is a tweak for Vista if you are using that, but to be honest, I found it made little difference.

Re: Really slow connection (day and night)

I've just do the test again on the BT tester. Results below:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
      Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6555 kbps

These seem a lot better than they have been up till late, I think I will keep monitoring what I get over the next couple of days (and nights) and go from there.

      Thanks again all.

P.s. As for OS I am using Vista

Re: Really slow connection (day and night)

There is a tweak for Vista on the TCPOptimiser page if you would like to try it. It does have the advantage of being very easy to undo if you want to take it off.

That's about right, you'll never get 7Mbps due to overheads so it looks like it's Sky traffic shaping during peak hours that's the problem...no doubt Steve'll wade in in a bit and direct to his blog and the FAQ page for Connect at the top of the help forum - along with about 10 examples of speedtests all showing what we already know...

Re: Really slow connection (day and night)

I've just read his post again.

Can someone clarify something for me, from what I read its looks like sky will only restrict my connection if I am using a lot of traffic (such as downloading or VOIP).

I very rarly download or use VOIP but I keep getting my connection restricted. So does mean that sky think I am abusing there network is some way and in turn they are restricting my connection? As I am deffinatly not, the only downloads I do are windows updates.... actually that says it all

Are you sure? The profile for the line is 7150kbps, this should be the maximum throughput possible. The line is actually syncing at 8128, the 'overheads' come off this figure, not the Profile.

VoiP is one of the applications which is supposed to be excluded from throttling, unfortunately Sky do not practise what the preach and very often throttle everything at peak time on Connect. What you have downloaded has little to do with it.
