Question Sky Max - 10 day training done, capped at 2 Mb!!!

      Good afternoon all,

First time on the forums but have read a lot threads so far.

My Sky Max broadband package training was completed yesterday. Sky have now synced me at a max speed of 2045kbps!!!

During the training the router was restarted maybe 3-4 times during the 10 days which I realise now may have affected the training in period. What puzzles me is the router stats although I'm not massively clued up on these I am learning from this site (slowly). I have posted the stats below:

      Connection speed 2045kbps/412kbps
      Line attenuation 22.5db/10.8db
      Noise margin 17.5db/19db

These stats are taken direct from the test socket.

Am I correct in thinking that with these stats my sync speed and therefore download speed should be much higher than they currently are?

How do I get the speed increased? Is this done automatically through DLM and if so when can I expect an increase?

Has something just gone horribly wrong with the DLM training process?

Thank you in advance for any comments

I know it may seem a daft question, but, are you sure your on Max and not Base?

If you are on Max then you will need to ring Sky and see if you can talk to CST, they will increase your speed.

Ring after 10:30pm for a better chance of them answering.

Thank you for the rapid response.

Yes I am definately on Max package.

What kind of sync speed should I expect with those stats?

With your attenuation you should get 16Mb, maybe more. Tell them you think DLM has crippled your connection. If they say you are getting as much as you can and will not pass you to CST, hang up and try again.

Will phone SKY later tonight then. Will they re-introduce DLM back on line to re-train or manually adjust the speed?

They might, hopefully they wont though as you would have to go through another training period. They can and should just manually configure it and give you an immediate result.

Re: Sky Max - 10 day training done, capped at 2 Mb!!!

Just got off the phone with SKY about 30 mins ago. They have re-capped the line to sync at 15Mb which I verified on my router stats while on the phone. 2 mins later the router re-synced at 12Mb? Strange but there you go.

Using speedtest.net returns download speeds between 5.5 and 9Mb. 9 I'm happy with but just feel I should be getting more. To be fair to SKY they did tell me to call back if I had any other low sync issues and they would up it again.

Noise margin is now 9.3db so I presume I could more from it.

Will monitor the connection for the next few days and see what happens.

did it drop after getting off the phone and re-sync lower? if so, probably a knackered filter or something not filtered correctly...
