Yes, pretty much as soon as I got off the phone it re-synced. Should I try changing the filter for another one?

I will try the SkyUser speed tester tonight and post the results for you.

might be worth while...before doing it, try and pick the phone up and see if it drops. if it does, then it might be the filter...

if not, might've been something else - like an auto regrade - so post stats up now and we'll have a look...

There is also a chance that it is a slight line fault, maybe high resistance in a joint. If you would like to experiment, dial a couple of numbers on your phone give it 30 seconds and check your stats. Hang the phone up, give it 30 secs and take your stats again. If your noise margin has dropped it could be a small fault, or as suggested a dodgy filter.

Re: Sky Max - 10 day training done, capped at 2 Mb!!!

I have tried both speedtest.net which returned approx 7-8meg/s and the Sky User test which returned just over 3meg/s.

      Which is reliable?

Incidentally router is now syncing at 10660kbps after restarts so 7-8meg sounds more like it.

Another problem seems to have reared it's head tonight. I have plugged in a corded phone into the filter (still using the test socket) and taken it off hook. There is quite a lot of noise on the line (humming and the odd crackle), then after about 15-20 secs the noise all but stops and my router drops it's connection.

I have tested my filter and 3 other filters, all end in the same result.

When the phone is plugged directly into the test socket and taken off hook there is still a lot of noise on the line.

Is it time to phone BT and say my phone connection is playing up and that voice comm is not upto scratch?

Router seems to stay synced until phone is used.

Hi Sky user test is more reliable you can run the test more than once and read the results and see if there is much difference between tests

Ring BT and tell them you have noise on the line, DO NOT mention ADSL, that will just confuse things. By fixing the noise they should also fix the ADSL.

To be honest, if it was DLM that dropped the line speed down then the CST agent that would have suspended it and upped you to 15Mb wasn't doing their job properly.
They should have looked into WHY DLM had dropped your speed.

Re: Sky Max - 10 day training done, capped at 2 Mb!!!

Ok. First of all thank you for everyones input.

I have run more tests tonight but haven't drawn any conclusions with my limited knowledge.

I have tried a corded phone plugged into the test socket again and there is a little popping and crackling now and then but not too often. However, noise on the line through the phone really starts when the router attempts to sync to the exchange. Buzzing, humming, popping and crackling. I have tried 4 different filters, 3 rj11 to rj11 cables and my old Netgear router which all have the same result of noise on the line.

More often than not, once the router is synced and you put the phone on hook the router then disconnects. If it doesn't disconnect and you pick the phone back up there is still lots of noise. This happens with all the filters, cables etc.....

Just for the record. Router is now syncing at a pretty constant 10600kbps and seems to stay stable until the phone is used.

Speedtest.net regularly returns a download speed of 8-9Meg, but the Sky User speed test returns between 3 and 3.3Meg every time. I have run both regularly over the past 3 hours or so and over the past 3 days all with the same result.

You need to organise a call for BT as advised above.

Re: Sky Max - 10 day training done, capped at 2 Mb!!!

      Have you tried another phone?

Try a speedtest from the BT servers, BT Openworld choose the large file and watch the speed it downloads at. This is an accurate way to test your speed. Watch closely as you do not get a printed result. You could also try downloading a large file, like THIS from MS and take note of the time it takes. If you are getting a 9mbps download it should come down in a bit over 4 minutes.
