Unhappy Unusable broadband past 5.30PM - 6PM daily

This problem has been happening now for over 6 months.
It's become a real problem now though because I need to use the internet at these times for work related purposes.

      Anyway, heres whats been happening:
5.30 - 6 PM every day, the speed plummets.
I usually have a download rate of 450kbps (I have sky connect - 8MB, so thats not very good anyway), but past this point, it's as if someone in sky HQ pushes a button, and makes my speed very low.

I've called them up and they were no help. They gave me possible reasons but none of them explained this specific time at which it happens.

Please help me with this problem, its become a daily annoyance. I believe the problem is on their side. The day it started happening was a normal day, nothing changed on our end.
Anyway, any help would be hugely appreciated.
      Thanks

Sky traffic shape between 5PM-Midnight, every night...and more so if you go over 1.4GB a day during peak times...

no doubt Steve'll pop up in a while and direct you to his blog...

Hi as IANTE say from 5pm till midnight traffic managed does not matter what you use most of connect Customer are affected you need to do a Bt performance test see below
Go to BT Speedtest enter your phone number then your ADSL username. This will do an official BT speed test and show your present profile. Your ADSL username is <the MAC number of your router, no colons, followed by> @skydsl You can also obtain this from the V1 router by using one of the utilities available on the forum. Copy and paste the result.
then your stats also a lot of information on connect here (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users hope this is of help if you need more ask and anyone will only be to pleased to assist

Re: Unusable broadband past 5.30PM - 6PM daily

      Hi, thanks for the replies.
I tried the speedtest, here are the results:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
      Your DSL connection rate: 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 6000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 183 kbps

I read up on the FUP, and I was confused by this statement:

We will monitor your Sky Broadband usage during peak times from 5pm to 12am each day. This is when the majority of customers use the network and when speeds could be affected by the excessive usage of a minority. If we consider that your usage is excessive during peak times we may slow down your connection for the rest of the day so that it has less affect on others.

      Is this a false statement?
I can hardly use the internet at 5PM - midnight, so how on earth can they limit me using just this data?
I will admit I am a heavy downloader, but only at about 10AM - 1PM.
I just can't see how they can limit me so badly (dial-up speed somtimes) when I'm not even using it during the peak times.

I have to stress that the speeds they limit me to are terrible. I feel like they're taking the money for a botched job. It works for you half the time, but when you most need it it tells you to **** off.

The sky connect package is a rebranded BT product and from what i have read on here is that sky will not buy more capacity from connect to run smoothly at peak times. You are on BT's equipment not skys, so there is not much sky can do, but to do like i said to buy more capacity.
The statement means that their equipment is monitoring everyone on connect to make sure no one is downloading to much a peak time and if so, like it says that person could get slowed down for the rest of the day. I would have thought that this would only happen if the usage is excessive most of the time.

It is Sky that is suppose to be traffic managing the connect package but not very well ending up throttling does not matter if you download lots or even do not download. Sky throttle it has nothing to do with Bt the connect package is also being over sold and that is a big problem and it will affect every connect Customer sooner or later.

Hi at the moment Sky connect is no good for gamers and any large downloading the thing to look for is LLU in your exchange hope this has helped

The only cure is to leave and go with a better ISP that uses the BT equipment. Zen, Plusnet or IdNet all seem to get good reports although they may cost more for the same download limit.

I think the simple answer to that is that " you cant fix it" other than leaving for someone who doesnt traffic shape. We would hope that if more connect customers compain and maybe leave and then and its a big then, Sky will address the issue
