      Weird Speed 'boost'?

This is far from a problem for me, I love it I just find it odd.

The last few weeks of using Sky Max Broadband has been the best ever throughout the WHOLE of the time being with SkyBB.

When I am downloading a file, or running a speedtest, the first few seconds of a download jumps between 1-2MB/s and then slowly drops to my normal 900KB/s and stays around there.

The odd thing here is the fact that I am not synced anywhere near these speeds :/

      ADSL Link
      Downstream : 8189 kbps
      Upstream: 796 kbps
      Line Attenuation
      Downstream: 41.0 db
      Upstream: 24.5 db
      Noise Margin
      Downstream: 7.6 db
      Upstream: 13.5 db

This page isn't cached. This machine has been reloaded and I haven't run a speedtest from here since reloading.

I love that it is doing this, but.....Why? :P

You appear to have DLM running on your line. Try a test at Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester and see what that returns. Speedtest .net it not at all reliable.

I only get 5000-6500 from there :/ and I know it is faster than that lol all my downloads are hehe.

I have had DLM on my line for ages. Ever since it was first mentioned I think.

Have a look at posts 489 and 490 in this thread **run a speedtest and post your results here**
Just one of several examples showing how bad speedtest.net can be. Good for the ego

      Re: Weird Speed 'boost'?

It's just because the time estimate is calculated based on how much has been downloaded over time.

At the start of your download or speed test you have very little data downloaded over a short time. The system calculates the ETA or speed based on such a small sample of data that it's going to be way out. The more data it has (i.e. time taken and data volume), the better the results.
