      Phone Line messed up

      Hi, all

Just this minute when i picked up my phone to make a call there was a very loud crackly sound. I had it before but phoned Openreach who fixed the problem by changing a wire on the overhead poles.

The weird thing is, unlike last time, my broadband is unaffected. I turned the router on and off with no problem.

Also, I have no dial tone.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong, Thanks in advance

disconnect your router from your microfilter for a minute and see if you have a dial tone as it could be an issue with the router/microfilter + try and connect into your test socket

Have you paid your bill? There have been cases where the phone was cut off but the broadband continued to work. With a loud noise on the phone, it is unlikely in your case. Plug the phone in without a filter and try another phone.

      Re: Phone Line messed up

I've tried all these things, still no luck. We pay our phone bill through direct debit and the last bill was late March.

I've checked all the wiring, when I tap the box there isn't even a clicking noise like there used to be.

Shall I phone the post office (my phone provider)? and should I mention that bb is still working?

      Re: Phone Line messed up

I had an exchange fault where the voice line went dead yet the broadband kept on working.

Try a wired phone in the test socket with nothing else connected to make sure you have no issues with your wiring and phone whoever you pay your line rental to.

Don't mention BB as it will only confuse them and report it as a line fault.

      Re: Phone Line messed up

You will have to report it as a fault on the voice line, to PO if that is who your pay the rental to. It could be something as simple as someone knocking the voice side of the exchange plug out of its socket. Hopefully they will not mess up your broadband while fixing it.

As isitme says, fingers crossed they don't touch the BB. They sometimes, unjumper the BB from your line, then its a call to Sky to get another engineer in.
