Question Not Sky - but help would be appreciated...

      Right...

A friend of mine is on ADSL24 on the BTW IPStream Max connection because their exchange is yet to be unbundled (in the So'ton area - not sure which) and they current have sync @ 8128kbps with an attenuation of 25 and an SNR of 15ish...

They're using a Netgear DGN2000 router and although the sync rate is good, throughput is awful (200KB/sec tops from HTTP).

Setup is NTE-5>filter (no phone as no land line phone in use - students)>standard Netgear dsl cable>router

Testing was done using ethernet and I used the BT Speedtest and they have an IP Profile of 6500kbps yet throughput was less than 1000kbps @ about 5PM yesterday...

PC runs Windows XP SP3, granted the AV has expired but all PCs on the network are as slow, and I tried using TCP Optimizer but this also did nothing...

Tried in Safe Mode to rule out any startup programs causing the limitations but results are the same...

Anything I've missed, or anything I could try? Gonna try and pop down when free with my own laptop and give it a go but this might not be for a good few weeks...

Are you sure no one else was downloading at the time of the test? The mention of students suggests P2P, Torrents etc., there is a chance that one or more of them have left something downloading. To be sure, switch off the wireless access point when doing the Test and make sure only one PC is connected by ethernet. All of the PCs should be checked for malware, by running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com.

Re: Not Sky - but help would be appreciated...

At the time I ran the tests, ALL others PC were off and not connected to the router (i checked the attached devices - come on, give me some credit )...

As for Gaz's comment - they've had it months...again, I know full well about BTW's 10 day training in period...

Malware is one thing I thought as the friends PC in question does have expired AV software so this is the last thing I could try - hence why I am going to take my PC there when I get a chance...

The only other thing i can suggest is to check with entanet, on the 30th March Entanet brought in the ALT tool which monitors internet usage, there has been issues with flags to non high users, but basically if your a high user or if u go over your download limit your flagged, flagged 5 times and your throughput drops, also can be to do with the Node they are connected threw, at 90% the ALT is active

      Entanet NOC 21CN Interconnect Status
      Entanet NOC IPSC Interconnect Status

i will get you the ALT status feed when i get home

If you have not done so, try a netstat /b with all browsers/email closed down, see if it throws up anything.

Maybe they have been overdoing it and have been capped for over usage. I would think there will be a FUP in place.

here is the central node checker feed

      noc.enta.net/centralpipe/?un=username@adsl24.net.uk&pw=password

change the details and it should give u details about the node, and ALT
