I am being throttled down by Sky - What can I do?

Every evening my speed drops from about 6MB to sub 1MB from 19:00 to 23:20hrs. I have checked out all my kit and all is working. No fault found.

It turns out that as a Sky Connect customer I am allowed to be treated as a sub standard customer and have my connection strangled if they think I am some net pirate downloader.

I was on the phone to Sky yesterday who waffled on for ages saying nothing. The fact is I am paying 17 p/m for a service I dont get. Any advice on what I can do?

      Thanks in advance

Re: I am being throttled down by Sky - What can I do?

Last month I requested my MAC code and planned to move to Tiscali but then I heard all the stories about Tiscali debt etc... now I am very tempted to cancel complete Sky package and go with FreeSat (saving me 62 p/m).

But if I move to a new ISP will they just do the same?

What can you do? (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users

Take a look here first but generally not alot can be done!

Will ISPs still do this to you?

No, granted there are a few, but generally there are decent ISP's, check that thread for information on UK ISP's, i moved to ADSL24 and very happy, otheres have moved to IDnet, Newnet.. take a look!

Re: I am being throttled down by Sky - What can I do?

I would start by looking to see who has LLU in your exchange, if you move to another ISP using BT Connect you will probably suffer the same fate. Once you establish which ISP's you are left with, ask them whether they have capacity at your exchange. This may limit your choices, but at least you'll know who is available.
