      Angry Noise Margin drops

      Hi,

I've been been having an issue for sometime now that is starting to frustrate me. Quite often my noise margin drops down to around 3db meaning my connection is useless so I reboot the router (DG834GT). Everything is okay from then on in. I do notice however that when I check my router stats after periods of inactivity that the router has often resynced itself. I've been running it for the last week on the test socket of the phone line and its the same story. Any chance I could have a dodgy router (I've had the same one since I joined Sky BB when they first set up)???

      Hope someone can help

Could be a faulty router, but get your detailed stats from here and post them -

      Re: Noise Margin drops

It is a bit unusual to see the sync speed higher than the Maximum rate for the line. Do you know if you have always been on ADSL2+? It could be you have been changed over to this mode and it is not suitable for your line. With such a short running time you can't really tell much from the stats. You really need to run for a 24 hour period, which may be impossible in your case.

In your position I would phone Sky and ask them to trouble-shoot your connection for stability. If you are lucky enough to get through to CST you could ask them to change your mode to G.DMT for a trial period to see if the connection is any more stable. The only alternative would be to cap your line below the Max rate, but changing the mode may be more beneficial.

      Re: Noise Margin drops

I moved the BB from my previous house to here so not sure what they had before we moved in. I do know it's not always been like this so I'll try your suggestion and speak to CS. If it is a faulty router can Sky provide a new one??

      Re: Noise Margin drops

I doubt it is a faulty router, but Sky will replace it if it is. I think a change of mode to G.DMT will sort you out.

      Re: Noise Margin drops

Hi again, I got a ticket raised the other night (did not speak to CST as I was on for ages with the first person I spoke to) and I rang back last night and spoke to another cust services rep. She advised they had made changes to my router??? and put some stability checks on the line? Pls can you check my stats again to see if they have done anything? It looks like it has resynced in the last 24 hours...
