      Question Speed Test

      Hi All
How acurate are all these speed tests?

i have tried the skyuser one and my speed is 5736-6000kbs download and 610 upload
      i went on speedtest.net and got 7.29mbs D/L 0.59 U/L that was form London
      i done it again form maidenhead 16.91mbs D/L 0.53 U/L

      then i tried speed .io i got 5948kbs D/L 636 U/L

i know my router statistics are not that great because i am not running though the main BT box but i have a proper line running from the bit were you are supose to run from on the BT box and my broadband is running from that if that makes sense.

i am quite happy with what i get because from the exchange checker it says i will only get 5mg download so what i am getting now is a bonus plus sky have just put me up another mg without me ringing or writing to them so i was just wondering what you all think about the speed tests.

      Re: Speed Test

I would say from the speed tests you have done the skyuser website speed test seems to have given you the most acurate speed test.
I would say that no speed tester is 100% acurate, but they give a good idea of the speed you are getting.

      Re: Speed Test

Your connection speed of just under 7mb would be the maximum speed that you will be getting at the moment less overheads so around 6mb.

The SkyUser speedtest seems to be about right, I would ignore the other ones.

With your attenuation and a clear line you could see a connection speed of between 8-9mb so it may be worth looking at improving your setup.

Does the master socket have a test socket underneath? If it does it is worth getting the stats from there as it will give you a best case senario for your line.

      Re: Speed Test

Thanks guy i do agree with both of you that the skyuser is about right to be honest i normally only go to the skyuser test but i just thought i would ask about the others

also i do have a test bt socket but its in my hallway and a pain to get to but one day when the house is empty i will give it a go...its just my other half and son moan at me if i start playing about with the broadband lol

i supose they are right they say leave it while its working fine which it is.

      Re: Speed Test

If you have wireless you could just do a quick check, you wont need to move anything other than the router that way and it will make no difference to the stats.

Just think how happy they will be with 8-9mb.

You would probably have got 24Mbs from Paris.
It just shows how crappy speedtest.net is. With your sync speed these download speeds are impossible. It still beats me why people insist on using it.

I think Smithy might be a bit optimistic in saying 8-9Mb. Putting your attenuation into the estimator says that, but what you must remember is that going to ADSL2+ your attenuation will increase by 3dbs. This would knock a full Mb of these speeds, which is close to what you have.

      Re: Speed Test

Yeah its a good idea to just plug the router into the main bt bit i will have to give it ago
i have wired and wireless 2 computers wired and 1 wireless

must admit i think speedtest.net is a crappy thing give so many different readings not stable at all

i don't mind the speed i get now at least i can play my games ok
when i was with VirginMedia my graphics us to play up....i would play my game and after a little while the people or monsters in the game would disappear and i couldn't see what i was shooting at only done it once since i have been with SKY and that was when i was wireless not done it since i wired my pc.

I do not want to rain on your parade, but you are syncing at 12 Mb according to your posted stats, so there is no way that you can actually download at that speed. You would have to be syncing at over 14Mb. If you can download at 10-10.5 Mbps you are doing quite well. Downloading at your sync speed is technically impossible.

      Re: Speed Test

i found that SKYUSER speed is only 10-20kbs out and SPEED.IO is about the same But SPEEDTEST is well out all over the place.
