Ha ha, erm it does and it doesn't! I haven't got a new faceplate yet, so do I just plug my cabling directly into A&B for now? It's working OK without the ringer, so thats a starter for 10!

Are you planning to leave the junction box in and replace the other master socket?

      If so then:-

The current wires in a& b in the junction box (white and green I think from the picture) stay as they are, remove the wires in terminal 3 at in the junction.

Then remove the existing socket and replace with the new one, connect the two wires that are in 2 & 5 in the junction box to A & B in the new master socket. The test socket should now work.

Put the faceplate on and away you go.

The only thing that is confusing me (and i'm easily confused) is why the main BT wire is directly into the middle terminal, i'm just wondering if the junction box is faulty and so they have bypassed it.

It's hard to tell from the picture what they are marked as.

I'm stuck with the current 'master' for the time being, but I'll consider an new fancy filtered one to replace the junction box coming into the house and run a Ethernet from there dependent on the success of tonights exercise. Coming into the house junction box, there's an orange cable tied into A, a white cable into B and the green ringer which is going into the other smaller non screw connector things, where 2 & 5 from the 'master' come in.

      Ok,

      Let's start again.

What are you trying to fit?

If nothing then just remove the two wires into terminal 3, that is all you can do for now before you get a new NTE5 box and faceplate.

Can you go back to my post #22 and do what I suggest there. Remove all the wires from the 'non screw things' and connect the blue wire and the white green wire to the A and B terminals. As Brucie used to say 'That's all you have to do'

Don't worry about fitting filtered faceplates for the time being, that will come later.

Edit - Going for a pint, I will look in later

That's much better, now you can phone Sky and ask them to lift the cap on your line as you have made improvements to your wiring.
      Next instalment tomorrow.
