You would do better just getting an NTE5a master socket and putting that on the incoming line from outside and then connecting any extensions to that, which make it tider.

Here is what I would try. Check the socket you have connected and note the colours of the wires connected to the 2 and 5 terminals. Now go to the junction box and take all the wires off the IDC connectors and connect the same coloured wires you have on your socket directly to the A and B terminals in the box. It does not matter what way round they go, you will have to expose a little bare wire to tuck under the screwed clamp.

You now have a clean connection from your socket to the exchange. Try your stats!

Will I still have a ringer if I do that, Isitme?? Would I be better off with a new master socket, perhaps with a inbuilt filter thingy??

Again, I think this may drag on another 24 hours, as I'm going to bed!! The help is much appreciated though, and if there was a 'buy beer' button, I'd be pressing it a lot boys & girls!!

The micro-filters have inbuilt ringer, so as long as you have one on each socket used the phone will still ring, or you could just get a filtered faceplate from ADSL Nation, link below.

As Andy says using a filter you don't need the ring wire. You don't need it anyway unless you are using a very old phone. All modern phones ring without the ring wire. What I have suggested is only temporary, when you find out what your line is capable of, them we can sort out how to fix it permanently.

Yea the Ring wire just causes more interference.. sort of like a radio antenna.

These guys know what they are talkin' about. I don't know much about the wiring...So just follow their advice and you should see an improvement! :P

Re: This is what I would have emailed to Sky...

Right, I've got the faceplate off - 2 & 5 have a blue and green & white cable, whilst there's an orange one in 3. Should I disconnect the orange one (I assume this is the ringer, as it has a cable coming in from the BT line on the master too) then disconnect all of them at the master by the door, before putting the blue & green/white cables directly into the A & B screw thingey, either way round??

      Have I got that correct??

Re: This is what I would have emailed to Sky...

If you are putting the master socket in place of the junction boc then you connect up the two incoming BT wires to A & B, any way around.

This will give you a working socket, if you want to also keep the extension as a phone one then connect up the two wires from 2 & 5 in the junction box to the 2 & 5 terminals on the faceplate.

Isitme suggested a direct hookup to A & B terminals - should I do this as well Smithy??

Sorry I edited my last reply as I didn't look at your pictures first. It should make a little more sense now.
