      Turn off the wireless

      Hi quickie question

My girlfriend has the black sky wireless router, is there an easy way to turn off the wireless so that the kids aren't sneaking on internet past a reasonable hour from their rooms?

Go to the woreless and disable it. You will need to enable it again when you want to use it.

or simply create a faraday cage and put it over the router - no radio signals wil get out then! and easier to move too

      Re: Turn off the wireless

There is a more advanced way of doing this.

If you go to router config pages and click on Security then Block Sites. At the top put the dot in the "Per Schedule" box and then where it says Type Domain Name or Keyword. Put in "www" then click Add Keyword.

Click Apply at the bottom. And then go to Schedule at the top. You can then set what days you don't want the internet being used. For example, Sunday through Friday in the tick boxes. Then putting the hours 21:00 in the Start Time and putting 07:00 in the end time will ensure all websites containing www will be blocked and inaccessbile between the hours of 9pm and 7am.. If your kids are smart like most are today. You can also add .com & .co.uk to the block sites list to stop them simply typing "google.com".

You can add an exception on the Block List page to one IP address. So on your girlfriends laptop or desktop you can go to the run command. Type 'cmd' without the 's. Then type 'ipconfig /all' this will give you a local IP that looks something like 192.168.0.2. Presuming you have Static IP's...

Hope i've not confused you too much. But this saves logging in and turning off the router every time the nippers go to bed..

      Re: Turn off the wireless

Thanks for the suggestion its definitely a possibility to try that option, we are buying a house soon and we're weighing up whether to keep her Sky or my O2 as our broadband.

One benefit i have being on O2 is that the router has a simple button on it which turns the wireless on or off which seems a simple solution!
