Following Isitmeís advice, Iím starting a new thread.
      My current download speed is:

      Router stats:
      ADSL Link Downstream/Upstream
Connection Speed 384 kbps 412 kbps
Line Attenuation 62.0 db 38.8 db
Noise Margin 12.6 db 14.0 db

And according to SkyUser ADSL Line & Broadband Availability Checker the max is limited to 512 kbps:

      Your Exchange Information
      Exchange: Carlisle BT Code: LCCAR
      Location: Cecil Street CA1 1QR
      Distance:- Direct: 2.34 mi
      (appx)*By Road: 3.1 mi
      Service Enabled On
      ADSL Enabled: March 31, 2000
DSL Max Enabled: March 31, 2006
      SDSL Enabled: April 17, 2005
21CN due : (PSTN) No Info
      21CN WBC (Broadband) March 31, 2009

      Your BT Line Speed Estimation
      Fixed ADSL: 512 (0 Mb)
      DSL Max: 500 (0 Mb)

Does this mean that nothing can be done to improve the download speed?
      Thanks for any advice.

Are you in the test socket or main socket, any extensions in use, filters been checked? Your SNR is not overly high so you may be able to get a little bit more from the line but not much I expect.

It looks like yours is yet another line line that has been pt on ADSL2+ and cannot support it. Phone Sky and ask them to check your line for speed. If you can get through to CST they should see the problem and move you back to G.DMT which should give you a speed of 2-3 Mbs.

Also do as Paul suggests and try the Test socket, you may be loosing a bit with your internal wiring.

Looks like DLM has saw something it doesn't like or its just being a pain in the ass
I bet the line is set on :

      Adsl2+
      one_Symbol/one_Symbol
      8 Delays/ 8 Delays

Always does this no matter what.

But yea, If your in the MasterSocket and setup is correct you should get about 1.5mb - 2mb tops.

Re: Slow Download Speed, how to improve?

      Thanks everyone so far.
      First, I don't have a MasterSocket (yeah I'm sure)
I am in a rented barn conversion (ca. 1985) and I have checked all 4 phone sockets (disassembled) and non of them have a test socket, not even the main socket where the outside line comes into the house.
All sockets have a ADLS splitter/filter plugged in. I had some extra and have also replaced them.
I've disconnected all phones and both sky boxes and carried out the speed test again.... still <400 kbps.
Also tried router/laptop from each of the 4 sockets with the original short phone/network cables that came with the router. No luck.
Is there anything else that I could try?

Re: Slow Download Speed, how to improve?

If you have a wire connected to terminal 3 in the master socket, disconnect it. This is the bell wire and can cause interference and is not required when using filters.

When you have done that, phone Sky, they are the only ones who can help. If Tier 1 cannot do anything, ask to be out through to CST. They will adjust your line and give you a usable speed.
