Thumbs down Line speed dropping daily

Hi thanks for accepting me into these forums.

I'm here for a bit of advice; Ive had the sky max package for just over a year now (a year last month)
when I first got the package I was getting speeds of about 2.5 and 3Mbps, after a few months it dropped to around 1.7Mbps, which I noticed but lived with it, now for the last week or so its gone down to 1.6, and today is now 1.2Mbps which is just unacceptable.

Before christmas BT updgraded and updated some hardware in the exchange which (ive spoke to a local BT engineer) should have boosted the speeds a little. I spoke to sky to see why i never saw any improvements and they couldnt give me a reason, other people on my street are getting speeds of at least 3Mbps, so why arent I?

Is there anything I can do? Can I request another 10 day line sync like i had when i first signed up to see if that helps?

Here are my current router stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1248 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 63 db 31 db
Noise Margin 7 db 7 db

      What are your opinions?

      Many thanks
      Richard Harris

      Re: Line speed dropping daily

Many things can impact speed, your attenuation is high so decent speeds will not be possible with stats like that.
Are you in your main socket, test socket or an extension?

Improvements BT make have nothing to do with Sky's equipment only their own.

As Paul says you have a very long line, the longer the line the more chance of faults developing. Plug into the Test socket and post back.

      Re: Line speed dropping daily

i was just going on the fact that other connections on the street are much higher really...so even without the improvements, shouldnt it be a lot more? And I shall have a go now

      Re: Line speed dropping daily

Im plugged into the test socket now, speeds were a bit better until i restarted the router but heres the stats that i have now

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1184 kbps 736 kbps
Line Attenuation 63 db 31 db
Noise Margin 7 db 8 db

before i restarted the router after being plugged into the test socket connection speeds were over 1300 kbps

I dont know if this makes a difference, but the master socket is extremely old, maybe 20 years old? it doesnt have a BT logo on it, its just a T in a ring...

      Re: Line speed dropping daily

It looks like the problem is on your external line, which if your voice line is OK, you have little chance of getting fixed.

      Re: Line speed dropping daily

do you think it would be worth asking sky to reset the sync settings? asin to get the 10 day trial period to let it settle?
      Is that even possible?
