Did you ask for DLM to be put on your line? It looks like it is and it will do not one bit of good. Your external line is bad and DLM will just keep dropping the speed until it stabilises which could leave you with practically no connection at all.

      Re: Line speed dropping daily

Nope I just asked why it had dropped from over 2Meg before christmas, to 1.7 then 1.2 today and he didnt have a clue, he was adament that i was only getting 0.5 and that was all i would ever get, which i knew was complete bull as i had always got more than that. He then passed it over to CST (if thats what its called) who put me on hold to go over the notes, which is when the line went dead...

If it doesnt improve soon im definately going to be leaving, im not gunna put up with less than1Meg

      Re: Line speed dropping daily

It could be coincidence if your speed started dropping before you phoned, since Sky seem to be moving everyone to ADSL2+ which you are now on,. Why they put a line on this when it struggles to handle the lower mode, I don't know.

so would this ADSL2+ slow me down? wouldnt it at least stay at the previous speed?

No, because ADSL2+ can have problems on longer lines like yours and it increases the attenuation by 3 to 4dbs. I has something to do with the frequency that the ADSL2+ mode uses.

      Re: Line speed dropping daily

Seems pointless them using that technology on lines of the kind of distance that mine is, when they know for a fact i couldnt use anywhere near the kind of speeds ADSL2+ is capable of in that case!

      Re: Line speed dropping daily

No, ADSL2+ uses twice the frequency of ADSL and in theory should work over longer lines. Unfortunately the theory does not hold out in practise and if the line has faults at all they are amplified. The longer the line the more chance of faults so the theory goes out the window. The technology constantly monitors the line and will lower or increase the speed in real time according to the noise on the line. If you reboot your router when your noise margin is high it should resync at a higher speed, but this will only last until the noise on the line goes up again, then it will drop back.

      Re: Line speed dropping daily

well in that case, shouldnt we have more power to get BT/Sky to make sure there arent any faults before they do this?

so if i restart my router now, i could potentially get a higher speed?
      my current stats are
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 864 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 62 db 31 db
Noise Margin 11 db 13 db

i havent done this yet, because i know restarting the router while the DLM is running can cause it to think theres an error and slow the speed, and to be frank, its (way too) slow as it is...
