Strange problem - can't browse internet when downloading

Hi, I have a strange problem when i'm downloading files via a torrent client (i've tried a couple of different ones now but the same issue applies). Basically whenever i'm downloading anything, i can't browse the internet via my browser (Firefox 3) - loading a new page either just causes the browser to hang, or it returns a Network Timeout error. However, if I close the torrent client down, my browser is immediately able to load web pages again.

I am on the Sky Mid Broadband package. I have tested the connection and am actually getting just over 8MB speeds. I've not had great results with download speeds - on average, speed is between 80kb/s and 150kb/s - but i've not been connected to this broadband package for long and there's a chance that these speeds aren't any higher due to the peers i've been downloading from so far - not too sure on that one just yet. I'm also on Linux Ubuntu, so it's a bit of a long shot that someone can help, I just thought i'd check in case it's nothing to do with the OS.

If anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated.

All you need to do is limit the upload and download speed in the setup so that you can use the internet at the same time.

I tried that and nothing changed. I set the download limit for my torrent client to 2MB and the upload limit to 100kb/s - still the same issue. Any other ideas? Maybe I should try another torrent client...

That is not right on an 8Mb connection you cannot get 2Mb on the download and same for upload on mid you cannot get 100kb/s.

Set your download speed to 500kb/s and set the upload speed to 15kb/s and start from there and then just add to the limits set until you find the right balance for your connection, use these and you should be able to use torrent and browse at the same time.

Are you using something like PeerGuardian? an ip blocker which can also be set to block HTTP
      Sync at 11194Kbps
