      Sky max gone downhill

Hi, we have had sky max for 15 days now. It started out great with download speeds of 10-12mb and uploads of 0.6mb and i was happy with that, But the last 5 days have been quite poor with download speeds 5-8mb and the upload speeds of 0.2-0.33mb. Most web pages have quite a delay when opening, At first they were opening very fast.

Heres my stats at the moment

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10237 kbps 412 kbps
Line Attenuation 33 db 19 db
Noise Margin 8 db 20 db

      any help would be appreciated

My guess is that you have been dlm'd.
To get dloads of 10 -12 your sync must have been around 14 ish which is what you would expect from your attenuation.
Two things jump out from your stats - the nm is slightly high and your upload sync is very low for max.
Two things could cause this :-
1 A noisy line and the dlm process has effectively capped you, check here for help with cabling Cabling and faceplate help
2 You have beeen manually resetting the router, and the dlm process has interpreted this as a problem with the same result.

Post some stats from the test socket, if you have one, and try to leave the router synced.
If the stats are ok in the test socket and things dont improve over the next few days then a call to sky will be required to sort things out.

I plugged the router in to the test socket and the results are the same, we have no extension wiring

      Re: Sky max gone downhill

If it was me yes, I'd be onto Sky, theres something amiss as on max your upload sync should be in the region of 760 and as you say the dl sync is also low. Also this would be a good time to call as they will be quiet (er)

      Re: Sky max gone downhill

Your noise margin has dropped below the Sky default of 6.9db so I would guess the first thing they will do is to reduce the speed even more

You are getting noise on your linr from somewhere, have yu tried directly into the test socket and swapping filters etc, also, what is the voice line line, can you hear any pops or crackles?

The line sounds fine if you make a voice call.

      Re: Sky max gone downhill

It looks like you have an intermittent fault on your line as 6 dbs is a big swing. These are very difficult to trace, so I would not hold out much hope for a solution. I doubt if Sky will help, if your margin is low when you call, as Smithy says, they will cap you down.
