      Slow speeds after router fault???

      Hi everyone,

      Spent the last two days searching and guess this may be the place to get my problem sorted before having to call SKY.

      I had a Sagem router and was flying along happily for over a year (Sky Connect broadband). On the Thursday it packed up and due to the bank holidays I only got an 'official' replacement router today (Now a netgear GT). I have noticed that I can no longer get the download speeds I was used to last week before the fault. Would my line have been tuned down by having a faulty router attached for 4 days and can I expect the speeds to return in time or is there something else wrong???

      I have switched to a wired connection and still poor. Router is in same location etc etc.

      Here are my stats from the router. Look at the poor connection speeds! I cannot remember what it used to be. Getting ~50kbps from Amazon download and Rapidshare.com

      Dstream = 576kbps
      Ustream = 288kbps

      D/L line atten = 28db
      D/L noise margin = 30db

      U/L Line atten = 16db
      U/L Noise margin = 27db

      Any ideas guys???

      Thanks in advance.

      What speed was you getting before and yes connect does require a few days to adjust and for the speed to go back up. if nothing happens then i would phone sky to reset your profile.

      Reboot your router, power cycling is better, just switch off for a minute then back on again. If your sync does not improve phone Sky and ask them to get BT to look at your connection. The upload speed looks particularly bad as it would normally be at 448, irrespective of your download.

      You might want to try an official BT speed test to quote to Sky should they ask, Go to BT Performance Tester enter your phone number then your ADSL username. This will do an official BT speed test and show your present sync, profile and throughput. Your ADSL username is <the LAN MAC number of your router, no colons, followed by> @skydsl*

      Thanks, speed before was nearer 7000kbps I think. I will see if it improves tomorrow.

      It will not change if you do not re-sync with the exchange.

      If your router kept resetting then what BT does is lower your IP PROFILE.

      Just happened to me. Got told to wait 72 hours until your line goes back to normal.

      with that sync rate I'd be thinking BT have put the line onto Home/Office 500...

      ^^^^^^^^^
      That's what I thought but it should not happen with a router change, unless BT are playing silly burgers.

      Re: Slow speeds after router fault???

      Hi, thanks for the responses. I power cycled the new router last night and I will see if things have improved when I get home later. Do I need to reset the router manually to cause a re-sync or is this done periodically? If things dont improve after the 72 hours mentioned above then I will give them a call.

      Re: Slow speeds after router fault???

      If your sync has not changed, don't wait, phone Sky and get them on the problem. If it has not changed by now, it is not going to, so don't waste time. It is difficult getting Sky to move on Connect problems, the earlier you start the process the better.
