With that noise margin you will get a slower speed with Sky.

You have a good attenuation figure which points to noise on the line, probably internal wiring fault.

Do you have a test socket?, if so, get the stats from there and post them. (see sig for details).

Once the line is sorted out you should see speeds of 12-14mb on SkyMax.

      Re: Joining on Thursday

Lol, nah, couldnt wait, I had a screwdriver handy, so thought it was quick enough to do.I'm going for the Max package, kids have all got their own PCs now, so between us all, theres 3 lappys, 2 desktops and my 360 all on t'internet, so could do with a bit o f a boost in the speed department....

How am I best dealing with the internal wiring? cat 5E, as opposed to cheapass Wickes stuff?

That all depends on your setup. I guess the lappys will be wireless ? The pc's and the xbox would be best connected via ethernet to the router. If it was me and bear in mind i dont know the layout of your house, I would leave the router connected to the master socket, and run long ethernet to the pc's etc. If you have telephone extensions wired to the master ensure the ringwire (usualy orange on pin 3 ) is disconnected at the master and all phone outlets. If you need to move the router away from the master socket I would wire a dedicated outlet for it using cat5e cable.

      Re: Joining on Thursday

right now, the router is in the master socket, there are 2 extensions, for phones around the house, one PC and the xbox are on ethernet, the rest are wireless. So will remove the ring wire first, and see how we go, may even reduce it to one line for the phone.

Thats after my tidy up - now all we have is the BB and phone via the master socket. We are going to replace the phone with one of those triple wireless ones, where the base station will be where our phone is now, and the "satellite" phones are around the house, instead of using extension cables!

Would a faceplate improve these stats at all, bearing in mind how far I am from the exchange(approx 1.2 km), or would I just be wasting my money?
