During off peak times, the speeds fine at about 5.5-7.5mb/s.

However, since Friday, the speed from about 5pm-11pm has dropped so much that webpages time out

Heres a copy and paste from the BT Speedtester...

Download speedachieved during the test was - 47 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
      Additional Information:
      Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

This has been the same now for the last few days, and is making using the internet quite a pain.

      Anyway, enjoy

      Adam
Welcome to the world of Sky Connect Adam - the only thing I can say to you is that your appalling speeds will be pretty consistent i.e. 7 days a week every week ad infinitum between 5pm and Midnight. If you are new to Sky Connect then the advice everyone will give you would be to phone Sky tell them this is no good at all and the chances are they will let you out of your contract without penalty.

      @More Speed.
As Steve often suggests, keep a record of your official BT tests, including the date and time. If you want to get out you can produce these as evidence of the extremely poor service.

Hi Sky have started to unbundle exchanges across the U.K. I think there is about 70 exchanges unbundled in June and July. There is a list of some on Sky still unbundling :: Sky Broadband :: think broadband plus on Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down? there is rumours of Sky buying more bandwidth after the summer on post #1642. Sky still pushing the connect package
if you think last year was bad.

Hi Gazz I was told I could leave no excess Just walk away. I said no I was staying. See my upstream more on that on Steve's Sky Connect speedtest blog post #104 I said to Sky if I leave who is going to turn the light out and shut the door on the connect package. They found it amusing

Sky are unbundling but mainly small exchanges where there is one or no ISPs if you think that is a good idea because Sky can sell a package TV, Telephone and LLU Broadband. The total package.

They are not unbundling Market 1 exchanges though Steve and I was talking to someone at Openreach today who says (certainly in my area at least) that the ADSL2+ rollout has slowed right down as the emphasis now is FTTC in those areas that will prove profitable for BT. It looks bleaker and bleaker for consumers on small M1 exchanges I'm afraid.

      Hi Steve,

Sorry to rain on your parade. However, a number of points with the exchanges you mentioned - (a) those are quite large exchanges in the main, even St Asaph has over 2500 connections and (b) the info on the SamKnows website is not up to date i.e. they are not M1 exchanges as all of them already have an LLU provider in addition to Sky. The definition of an M1 exchange being where BT is the sole provider.

I have been told officially by Sky that our exchange is not one that is ever likely to be LLU by Sky as it is far to small i.e. less than a thousand connections. I have also had a letter from BT via my MP that at this time BT have no plans to convert the exchange to ADSL2+.

So to sum up then, I could be having this conversation in ten years time and Sky will still not have LLU our particular exchange and who knows what BT will have done. Whatever it is it certainly won't involve FTTC.
