      The CRC errors, 0.5% is said to be acceptable, over that can cause problems. In the OPs case this is particularly bad as the sync speed is also very low. Note that it is not the total number that is important, but the % rate. You could see millions of CRC errors with no problem as these could be a very small percentage of the total Super Frames. A Cyclic Redundancy Check error indicates that part of the data packet is corrupt and requires retransmission.

      Total time = 13 min 9 sec
      SF = 31312
      CRC = 469

      Well, after a confusing afternoon I've found out the master socket wasn't the one I was told it was.

      I've disconnected the bell wire, and the crc errors have dropped dramatically:

      Total time = 32 min 1 sec
      SF = 118046
      CRC = 56

      The line is showing similar stats to yesterday, but at least I've sorted one problem out!

      Connection Speed 2042 kbps 412 kbps
      Line Attenuation 40.5 db 23.1 db
      Noise Margin 7.1 db 22.0 db

      I shall give Sky a call and see if there's a cap on my line for any reason.

      Still no test socket?

      As IANTE says, you are not capped or your noise margin would jump up, so you still have noise problems on the line. Is your voice line clear, can you hear any noise when you are using the phone? The only way to check if it is internal wiring which is causing the problem is to remove the extensions from the phone circuit. You need a bit of confidence to do this yourself and an IDC tool handy to replace the wires after you have checked.

      I would have thought that you could get a faster speed than that with that attenuation, my attenuation is 40db and i get more than that.

      Nope, no test socket.

      Found the master socket as it has a cap in the back of the plate.

      I've done a quiet line test, and there's no cracks, pops or buzzing on the line.

      Where there any wire4s plugged into terminal 3? if so remiove them, you don't need them and it can cause noise.

      You only need terminals 2 & 5 connected.
