      Max Capped? My stats.

I've got the feeling my Max is capped.

I've had it a year and never bothered much as my internal wiring was pretty skanky but I've sorted that out now. I think at the time I got it I knew my max speed would be 8Mb/s but was going for the uncapped side of things. (I'm now unclear as to why I thought it would be 8.

I'm on the croftfoot exchange which is LLU (although skys broadband checker tells me the most I'll get is 5Mb/s . My distance to exchange is 0.5km direct and less than 1km by road.

      here is my router stats

      System Up Time: 70:51:29

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 5945760 12794589 0 0 0 70:50:08
      LAN 13795702 7086290 0 0 0 70:51:29
      WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 0:00:00
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 32.0 db 18.0 db
Noise Margin 16.3 db 14.0 db

I think they are pretty good considering some of the other threads I've seen

Who/How do I get sky to remove any cap?

      ta.

edit: oh yeah it's a sagem router

      Re: Max Capped? My stats.

Those stats are not bad at all, all you need to do is phone sky tell them that you line is capped and you have now sorted out your home phone wiring and would like your connection to be uncapped. Ask to be put through to CST who are able to increase you speed will only take two seconds to do. Teir one will go through troubleshooting for a slow connection after this they should put you through to CST. Best time to phone is after 10.30pm you have best chance of getting through.

      Hope this info helps.

      Re: Max Capped? My stats.

      I live 2.5km and I get a max of 12mb on torrents

So if you live .05 you should be doing 14 to 16mb I would assume.

      Re: Max Capped? My stats.

It's in the test socket at the moment but conected by a length of crappy extension cable.

Spoke to guy on phone there says the distance to exchange is 2.4 km. which even allowing for profligate BT wiring seems excessive! He's bumped me up to 9.2Mb/s and the Noise margin is now 7.2 atten. is 36. He said that squeezing more out of it might make it unstable and I suppose he's got a point. I thought the whole thing was supposed to be adaptive anyway (even ater the 10 day bedding in) and didn't rely on someone sorting limits.

is that difference between G.dmt(?) and the other thingy, lol

Get rid of the extension lead, you are causing your own problems with it.

I know it just requires a bit more upheaval and running some cat5 cables.

Aye, had to break the bad news to a customer on Saturday that running a 20m extension for the phone line probably wasn't helping her issue lol

G.DMT is capped at 8Mb and ADSL2+ from sky is up to 16Mb normally up to 24Mb but not all lines are able to use ADSL2+ and there for are put on to G.DMT.

Could you post your current stats after the speed increase.

You could get your cat5 cable from ADSL Nation, Link below.

I never seem to mind them, unless they start on the old "It's been working fine for several years"
