      re: download speed

From what I have been told, I think, and lets see if I am right.

Your noise margin is high MIne is 8 - 10db, and I think it needs to be around 6-7.

I got sky to force it for me.

I use a good torrent sites that are true speeds, and I get a constant 1.1 to 1.2mb

Connection Speed 11517 kbps 700 kbps
Line Attenuation 36 db 21 db
Noise Margin 8 db 10 db

      re: download speed

You have an excellent connection syncing at near the maximum. Your high noise indicates that your line is very stable, but may be capped. With your very high speed this is not going to make much difference to your download speed. You should be able to download at 13-13500kbps. Can you do a speedtest at Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester the result from there will help track down your problem.

If you are not running Vista, download and run DrTCP after doing the tweaktest.

      re: download speed

Very bad that is about one tenth of the speed you should be getting.
Can you run DrTCP as suggested then try again? link below.

What anti virus and other security software are you running?

      perhaps a miss print.
How about Port Forwarding for Torrent client, surely Torrents aren't a good speed test?
      Sync at 11194Kbps

      re: download speed

The speedtest was done on Skyuser, which is more accurate than ego massaging speedtest.net.

If you are running Vista, DrTcp will not help.
Are you using ethernet? Wireless can give very low download speeds.

If you are using ethernet, try booting into Safe Mode with Networking and try a speedtest from there. This would rule out software causing the problem.

      re: download speed

Torrents are a true speed test.

It depends on what site you use and how many seeds there are.

You you are using cr@p piratebay or mininova then you are not going to see good speeds no matter how many seeds.

I can get 9-10mb on a speed test, but on the torrents I will get 11-12mb

I never rely on speedtests, one will say 8 the other 10

Anyway I only download TV shows that I missed.
