Question Connection speed good, throughput low

      Hi Folks

I'm looking for help. I'm on MAX and my sync speed is as it should be but my throughput is terrible. Here's my stats:

Connection Speed 14782 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.5 db 15.9 db
Noise Margin 8.9 db 15.5 db

We only have one socket, which is pre-filtered. Using the original Netgear DG834GT and no extension. Operating system is Vista. Using a WG111v2 Netgear adapter, using Zero Config. I've tried with the firewall on/off/removing applications on the PC that aren't used anymore and now puzzled.

Since yesterday, my speeds on different sites - thinkbroadband.com and ISPosure both rate my speeds between 1Mb and 5Mb. Last night, I used the reset hole on the back of the router to reset it and my throughput speed went up to 12.18Mbs but since this morning, I'm back to the same low speeds. I've just reset the router again and I'm still only getting:

      Speed Down 4691.27 Kbps ( 4.6 Mbps )
      Speed Up 638.92 Kbps ( 0.6 Mbps
Here's the results from thinkbroadband.com here after the last reset which didn't work.

Is it likely to be the router, or the wireless adapter? Can anyone help?

try ethernet, chances are it's a wireless issue...

Thanking you, I'd just disconnected everything to move next to the router and when powered back up, saw your reply

Now getting 13.35Mbs with Ethernet - looks like a replacement adapter is on the cards this weekend as a change in port, change in channel and removing its extension didn't work either.

Don't bother buying anything for woreless. Get a couple of homeplugs, they work like a wired connection and will give you full throughput.

just get a long ethernet cable to stretch from your router lol, they can be up to 325 ft without any signal loss ;]
