Broadband Suspended due to spamming (Bot)

My Broadband connection dropped this morning and after a quick call to the support desk I was informed my service was suspended after spamcop reported my IP number for spamming. It was pointed out that Sky in no way thought I was responsible and suggested I have a bot ( Trojan or other Virus ).

Having seen previous posts on here where this situation was encounted by other members I was well aware that Sky were going to ask me to re-format my hardrive. I therefore have removed the offending computer from the router and in agreement to get my broadband re-established have connected a virginal Laptop.

Whilst I do understand the need for action to be taken, I would prefer a warning prior to being cut-off. I have no argument that my computer has turned on me and is now working for the Viagra Corp of Russia, but I am both a computer tech and somewhat anal in my approach to internet security.

Having just run a very detailed scan ( extremely low level scan I may add ) my computer is cleaner then Snow White after being washed in bleach.

Which gives me cause for concern, I would love to know how many other users have been suspended from Sky BB for the same issue ?.

All around me I see people using their computers with no security spawning more virus issues then a lab facility, and yet Mr "Anti Virus computer nerd " -Me ! is the one suspended

Quite a few. Would you rather Sky sent a letter out that will take several days to arrive during which time the issue could become much worse for some?

There have been a few reported on the forum, as you say the usual advice is to format. You are not sending out a newsletter are you? This may be interpreted as spam.

If you are interested in security you will know that the Conflicker worm was due for release on the 1st, but it did not make much of an impact. Maybe the software they use has been put up a notch and is now a bit overzealous.

The % appears to be very low against the amount of people who dont even use anti-virus measures. Even if you take into account the low % that would report such action on a forum like this.

I would have expected a suspension naughty corner the size of Cornwall

Spambot is pretty ridged in its reporting measures regardless of any current worm activity, its just reporting incoming spam to those who subscribe.
