      ADSL speed checks are useless

      Hey

I was with virgin and when I did a speed check it always gave me 10mb all the time no matter what time of day.

ADSL gives me anywere from 4mb to 8mb range, which is very erratic.

I downloaded a TV show and it downloaded very slow to begin with, but then it was a steady 12mb after a min or so and took 5min on a 356mb file.

DO NOT TRUST STUPID SPEEDTEST PROGRAMS (on ADSL), unless you are on cable.

I can get an easy 10mb as I am only 2km from exchange but speedtest.net and even this site is not accurate, so dont pay attention to it.

Pants - For myself, the speeds are nearly always accurate.

If you are on Max and are having such a variation, have a look closer to home. Sky's Max service has always performed consistently for myself and others. Granted there are exceptions, but there are so many factors that could influence your results.

VM may have 10meg connections, but they are shaped, FUPped etc etc

Unless you are having issues with DLM or your own ADSL connection, please don't assume it applies to everyone.

Sorry, I have to agree with canada16, All speed checks I have done have never come near what my download speeds are, I get anything from 4mb to 8mb on all the speed check sites even this one, I also have NetworkMagic installed, which until the recent beta always showed the same thing, but now shows 10160kb which is about right, my normal downloads come through at between 1.05 and 1.25 MB/s [Edited, decimal point error]
