      Internet connection slow and dropping out

      Hi

      I've been with Sky Max 18 months now and havn't had a problem until recently. Our router seems to be continuously disconnecting and reconnecting at much slower speeds. We normally get around 3.5 mbps but now its down to 1.7mbps. Sometimes it goes back up. Also everytime we receive a phone call the internet disconnects. I've replaced all the micro filters and tried with just the router plugged into the phone line and still slow speeds.

      I've also noticed the phone has alot of crackling on it now, almost enough that you can't actually hear the other person speaking.

      So any ideas on what I can try? I haven't had chance to try from the test socket yet as our builder has cleverly covered it over.

      Also, I don't know if this would make much of a difference, but our exchange was upgraded to 21CN around the same time the problems started?

      would be an idea if you could to take some stats from the test socket and post them here for us to comment.

      I think you have put your finger on it right there. If there is any noise at all on your voice line it is going to impact worse on your broadband. Phone your rental provider right away and tell them you want your line fixed as it is almost unusable due to the noise.

      21CN in itself should not cause the problem, but there is a good chance your 'pairs' have been disturbed while work was going on in the exchange.

      Thanks for the help,

      I've actually just got off the phone with BT and they've said there is a fault with our line at the exchange, and someone should be fixing it tomorrow.

      See how it is after the engineer has looked at it I guess!

      I actually mentioned to the women on the phone that my exchange had just been upgraded to 21Cn and she kind of said that althought the upgrades shouldn't have any affect on customers, but seemed to imply it had caused problems!

      Apparently the engineer has been and tested the phone and broadband and we're back up, will have to see what speed I'm getting now when I get home!

      In theory it should cause no issues but it only takes one cable to be knocked.....

      I think I have figured out my problem, freyed cable (old twin grey stuff) has finally snapped - BT are coming out Monday to fix it.
