      Few questions from new user

      Hi, Enabled on Max today.
Very easy smooth transition but I have a few questions.

      1. Downloaded a torrent at 1pm got no higher than 30kb per sec so tried sevreral other torrents from different sources but still got 30kb. Is this usual? I got higher transfer rates with my previous isp.

      2. How do I get the username and password for my router? Netgear .Tried a generator but still won't let me in.

      3. Is the set-up CD needed? I tried to install but it stopped after trying to connect to internet saying i wasn't connected yet (but I was). Are the "updates" that it says it will download neccessary?

think thats it for now, very happy with speed, I'm getting around 13mb.

      your help will be appreciated

Have you opened the ports in the router?

Getting your V1 and V2 router passwords - the safe way

      3. Is the set-up CD needed? I tried to install but it stopped after trying to connect to internet saying i wasn't connected yet (but I was). Are the "updates" that it says it will download neccessary?
Nope - use it as a coffee cup holder

      Thanks newsreader.
I've tried the generator but it the username and password that it generates doesn't seem to work.
Tried a couple of times to make sure that I haven't mis-typed anything

      Hi Newreader,

Just found out my user and pass (Didn't need the generator, it's just the usual admin etc)
I use uTorrent and it tells me that all ports or open nevertheless where do I look to open ports in the router settings?

      thanks

      DOH!

I thought you meant username and password as to use another router.

Sky User - BitComet Port forwarding on a Sagem F@ST 2504 Router.

Have a read of that, chances are you haven't set the port forwarding up, as you would need the username and password for the router to do so.

Although it is for the Sagem and maybe not the same torrent program, they are very similar.

Re: Few questions from new user

      Another update.
Opened my port and still 30kb download, picked a couple of random torrents.
My torrent program reports that all ports are open, surely this can't be throttling, I only got connected today.

Sky don't throttle on Max - It has to be something else.

What d/l speed are you getting from a speedtester? Try Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester

It would be interesting to see your router Stats.

If you are not using Vista or Win7, download and run TCPOptimiser or DrTCP, links below.
