      Slow Connection Speed

      Hi !
Wonder if you can help me ?
I'm on Sky MAX but getting slow download speed.
Sky state it's because the line is poor.
My download connection speed is 4095 kbps.
      Attenuation is 49.0 db.
      Noise Margin is 10.8 db.
I live quite close to the exchange - about a mile as the crow flies.
My noise margin was only about 5 db before I followed the advice re phone wiring and now have only No. 2 & 5 wires connected.
Could the line be capped ?
Sorry if i've posted this in the wrong place - first post and wasn't sure.
      Peter

      Re: Slow Connection Speed

With your attenuation and a good line you should see 6-7mb, you line is currently capped, ring Sky and ask them to remove it. It wouls also be worth taking the time to get the stats from the test socket if you have one (see sig below) and removing any wires that are in any terminal except 2 & 5, you only need these two connecting.

      Thanks for your replies.
The router is in the main socket. Only wires 2 & 5 are attached.
      Currently connected by wireless.
Router stats are currently as follows : -
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 49.0 db 27.4 db
Noise Margin 12.0 db 11.5 db

I'm thinking there is a cap on the line as the attenuation / noise margin don't seem too bad.

Yes you are capped, or DLM is still running. You need to ring Sky, after 10:30pm is usually a good time and get them to remove the cap.

      Re: Slow Connection Speed

      Bit clearer now about DLM.
I've been with Sky for about 10 months now.
They kept saying it was due to the BT line.
How would I know if DLM was affecting the speed ?
I've written to Sky to sort the speed out - will ring them if nothing happens.
Thnaks to everyone for their help

      Re: Slow Connection Speed

DLM has been running on your line and has left it crippled. Phone Sky, you are wasting your time emailing about something like this, ask them to manually reconfigure your line. It has probably been left on ADSL2+ which may not be the best for your line conditions. You may be better on G.DMT, if you get through to CST mention this. They should be able to sort you out in minutes.

Edit - I meant to add, you may be near the exchange as the crow flies, but according to your attenuation you are between 2-3 miles in line length. The most you can expect is 5-6 Mb.
