Moving from Connect to Mid - Go-Live date?

      Hey All,

      V. quick question I'm sure someone has an answer to. Recently my exchange suddenly decided it had capacity so I put in a call to Sky to move from Connect onto Mid. The Sky agent obliged and badaboom my order is raised.

So my question is my go-live is supposed to be 23/3/2009, whats the likelihood of the transfer to Mid happening before this?

      See screenshot below!

      Cheers all

Wishful thinking on my part then and my eagerness to get off Connect before I go insane.

Not long to wait now, thinking I'll see how the line holds up with Mid and switch to max given that I currently have an attenuation of 32db

Roll on monday and a return to real internet. My word its been a struggle.

You should see a huge performance (browsing, downloads etc) difference, compared to Connect. Or the Connect that is currently being portrayed. At least you are one of the lucky ones who can swap.

      Good luck.

Interesting that I wasn't overtly told I was able to swap, I merely checked Sky's BB product page as if I were a new customer until one day the system said I could order any package I want.

I was never explicitly told, hey, great news lets get you over to Mid. It really was a case of check every day. Ridiculous.

Cheers, will let everyone know how I get on.

Re: Moving from Connect to Mid - Go-Live date?

      tbh I am very surprised.

Sky would actually start to recover their money and aim for profit, as the overheads are a lot less on LLU than BT's ADSLMAX service.

If I were Sky and anyone on Connect was in the position that they could swap to an LLU product, Base, Mid or Max, then I would have already started the process off.

OK - Connect is pretty poor for a lot of people, but as a broadband package, its a loss leader for Sky I bet.

My understanding having spoken to CST for a considerable length of time, is that in order to transition people from Connect to Mid, they need to aggregate the Connect customers up and perform a bulk migration, so moving people individually is just something they won't do.

Whether that in my case is due to the fact that there literally is only a few free slots on the exchange, insufficient to be aggregated into a mass migration, but enough for an individual move, I have no idea.

As to the actual move, do you know whether its physical visit to the exchange by a BT engineer thats required, or a flick switching exercise? I've suddenly become intrigued by the voodoo that goes on at exchanges now. My girlfriends bored stiff of me pointing out our local cab when we pass it

      Cheers

A physical visit to the exchange I believe. Once on LLU its a flick of the switch, to change between those products that Sky offer.

Your wire is moved from one box and plugged into another. This is probably why moves are done in bulk when places are available. BT probably charge Sky a hefty fee to do the change over, with a discount for quantity.
