      Just tried to sign up to sky. It says ,Currently we estimate that the maximum download speed your line could support is up to 8 Mb.
      It says base ,mid and max are available so why is it only saying 8 mb.

      Because of your distance from the exchange.

      All speeds quoted are an UPTO figure, you line length to the exchange is the main factor as to the speed you will get. The further away, the slower it will be, if the checker says upto 8mb then you will never get the 16mb speed that Max can deliver.

      What is your current line attenuation? That will give an indication of what you can expect. Unless they have changed it, Sky use the old BT data to calculate line speed and this only measures up to 8Mb. If it says you will get 8Mb, you will probably get pretty near 16.

      Kitz's Site gives instructions how to obtain stats from various routers/modems, if you need help finding he attenuation.

      They tested the line and say 16mb so i dont know why i got 8mb during sign up.All booked and install is next week
