      Am I Being Capped?

      Hi,

I am a little confused here and I have been reading up on line attenuation etc, basically I think that I am having my speed capped with Sky - here are my stats.

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 60437 75895 0 0 0 3:11:23
      LAN 15 0 0 0 0 3:12:21
      WLAN 85017 67994 0 0 0 3:11:53
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6229 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 51.0 db 27.8 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 7.0 db

My distance from the exchange server as per BT and some other checkers is 2.09 KM, even if you allow for some cable turns it still seems that my line attenuation is too high.

      What do you think?

      Thanks

      Scott

no, you're not capped...in fact, you have a good speed for your attenuation!

      Re: Am I Being Capped?

IANTE is right, you do not appear to be capped and you are getting a good speed for your attenuation.

Little can be done to lower your attenuation, only moving closer to the exchange will do this to any length.

You can not be sure which path your line takes, it may not be a direct route, it could go in totally the opposite direction before turning ane heading back your way. Attenuation is based on distance and yours is towards the higher end.
